Hi there,
I am looking for some help in buying safety gates for top part of the stairs.
The width is 85cm and I am struggling to find a decent brand.
Can someone plz share their opinion on how to select a gate?
Thanks

We bought some gates from Tesco when they were on offer. Cant remember the width limit, BUT you can get extensions for them to expand the gate into a larger gap.

I didn't want a pressure fitted one at the top of the stairs since I'm forever tripping over the bottom bars of the ones we have elsewhere in the house - we have a Lindam extendable one at the top of the stairs which is drilled into the walls. Because the plasterwork on our house is flipping awful we got our builder neighbour to fit it as strongly as he could but we only ever use it as a final line of defence and have pressure fit gates on bedroom doors as well so we can open and shut things according to what we're doing - I really wouldn't trust our walls to a determined toddler. Bottom of the stairs we're again up against the bad walls problem, plus a tiny hallway meaning you have to jump up onto the stairs to open the front door properly - so we've just put a pressure fit gate on the doorway from the lounge to the hall there instead.

Hi
When my two were little the advice was not to use pressure fit stairgates at the top of stairs as there is a risk that someone could fall or push against it and the pressure fitting could give way and so they end up falling down the stairs.
