Today while shopping I decided to upgrade my mobile and ended up taking out a new Tmobile contract. When I got home, my son told me my husband has bought me the same phone on sim free for Christmas. Is there anyway I can cancel the contract I took out today?

There is usually a cooling off period Lotto..... have you opened the phone and/or connected the sim card to the service if it was a new one?

I'd say 'usually' is too optimistic.
It depends on the shop's policy and many mobile shops don't offer it.

No joy! According to the shop, if I bought it over the phone or online I would qualify for the cooling off period, but you can't get this if you buy in the store. Looks like I'm left with 2 mobiles!
    Thank you for your help.

What shop? Because some do allow it, but the sales reps often 'forget' or give incorrect information on order to still get their sales commission... .

I'm sure there is a 7 day cooling off period with all service contracts, but i may be wrong.

  • You are. Internet orders are 7 days, shops don't have to accept returns (it's up to them and their own particular t&c).
  • I know that EE/Orange/T mobile do not allow you to make "change of mind" decisions regarding new contracts.

Surely it'll be easier and still possible to return the sim free phone?

No - it is second hand - look at the stories of the 'new' purchaser finding photos of rude body parts on their handset! Buyers remorse is not covered for in-shop retail sales - only mail order.
