Good to see ADBLOCK finally available for IE. It's been around for ages for Firefox but the average Jo home user (who are most likely to fall for this) still use IE.
Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer
Although you might not expect it, Internet Explorer is still the world's second most popular browser with hundreds of millions of daily users. We developed Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer precisely for those users — so that they can finally experience the web without annoying ads.
Developing an extension for Internet Explorer is challenging — that’s one of the reasons there are not as many extensions on Internet Explorer as on Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera.
The installation of Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer is different than on other browsers. Usually, the extension is directly added to the browser; however, for Internet Explorer you need to install it through a so-called installer. But don’t worry: it takes under 30 seconds to install Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer. Just click on the green button above called “Install for Internet Explorer” to protect yourself from annoying advertising0 -
These are parasitic 'companies' , designed to catch enough people into believing they are using a DVLA service, simple as that.
If you look at the https://www.drivinglicence.uk.com site, the first thing you see at the top of the page is "apply now", so people click that without scrolling down through the rest of the page which only later explains that they are not affiliated to the DVLA. This is deception. Why not have the "apply now" button at the bottom of the page?
This is a prime example of rip-off Britain, we're full of scammers and fake companies.
Let's hope enough people see this to put them out of 'business'0 -
ABP won't block Google ads unless you go into the options and UNcheck the "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" option.0

Adblocker is a waste of time.
For one thing adverts are not a bad thing. You just need to have the internet nouse to know whats an advert and what isn't an advert.
Google make it very clear whats an advert and what isn'tThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yes I think that there is indeed a need to point out to people that on the whole, these sites are legal.
Knowing the legal standing of a company gives you some of the information needed if you are considering attempting a credit or debit card chargeback or other legal action if you feel that you have been ripped off.
It's all very well telling someone that they have been had over by a scam company and that they should contact their card issuer to ask for their money back, but what is the point in telling someone this if it is not correct?0 -
Now im confused. You dont want censorship on the internet, yet you want these legal sites to be banned!
Ok, lets have a look at the three different groups of people you think there are!
a) I was new to the internet once, yet to this day have not purchased anything in error because I read what im buying. The same applies to the majority.
b) Its not overly difficult to understand that a listing with the word "Ad" in a different colour is an ad!
c) If someone with one of these conditions is able to access, find, complete and pay for a driving licence online - then they are just as able to read the front page of these sites which claim they are only a checking service.
In answer to your question - because these sites are legal!! Just as the post office offers a checking service, so do these sites.
It tells you in big bold letters that the site is only a checking service.
Im fed up of this race to the bottom all the time. A few people fall fail of these sites because they dont bother reading what their buying and all of a sudden people want censorship.
I stick to mu original point.
Legal - Let it stay.
Illegal - Take it down.0 -
Powerful Rogue seems to think that, as long as a site keeps within legal confines, that's ok.
I wonder whether he agrees that, for example, it is fine for a Lord to sign in to the House of Lords, then go straight out of the door, claiming his £350 attendance fee?
Perfectly legal, of course, and within the rules, but blatantly wrong, a misuse of the rules, and simply 'playing the system'.
Well these scam companies are careful to twist and turn to stay within the legal requirements, but are palpably conning the public.
These firms are basically fleecing the public whilst hiding behind the fact that they are operating within the law.
They exist solely to con members of the public to pay for a non-existent 'service' for which there is absolutely no need to pay for.0 -

I cant see how your example is really relevant. Were talking about the legality of websites here, nothing else.
The Driving Licence site this thread is about. If you find it via google it marks it as an "Ad" with a yellow background.
Secondly, In the center of the front page, In larger black bold font it states
We are not affiliated with DVLA, the UK government or any official body. The checking service we provide can be obtained from the DVLA directly at a reduced fee or you can apply without a checking service where there will be no checking fee payable.
Even giving a link to the actual DVLA website! So first of all I can see its an Ad, secondly they are telling me upfront its only a check and send service. If I cant be bothered to read that before handing over my hard earned money, then theres noone to blame other then myself.
The post office have offered exactly the same service for decades, so just goes to show that some people must need it.0 -

Clearly some people would like to see these internet adverts banned, but why stop there... lets ban all adverts.
After all, aren't most adverts designed to part people from their money?
And some of those people will be vulnerable too.
Merry Christmas to one and all.0 -
There are a lot of arguments and comments on these MSE threads that could almost have come directly from the 'businessmen' that sit behind these rip-off sites.0
