bedroom roller blind - blackout or not?

I am looking for a roller blind for a bedroom that has previously had curtains. I have never previously bought blinds for a bedroom. Are blackout ones necessarily needed? Am I likely to regret it if I buy a standard roller blind or wooden venetian blind?

I have a white wooden venetian blind in my dressing room and it does keep out nearly all the light when it is closed.

I would have one in my bedroom.

For the small extra cost - definitely blackout, especially for a bedroom where silhouettes will be a problem.

If you can get one with metal fixings, the plastic ones I find really tricky to attach.

I have had some nice ones from Amazon and ebay

Don't forget in summer it starts getting bright at about 4am!!!!! Without a blackout that would a real pain! Also an afternoon snooze can become difficult without a blackout blind.
Definately blackout for a bedroom. Check the blind first though, some are only coloured on the inside (B&Q!), the outer is a white shiny plastic that looks awful from outside. You really want one thats coloured on both sides.

  • You have very good choices for putting roller blinds in the bedroom. Roller blinds make the room look beautiful. It gives classy touch the the bedroom.
