Argh - windows 7

Our work computer has just been upgraded and we are now on windows 7 (used to be an ancient version of windows, pre vista). We use photos a lot, and I've just noticed that when we go into the picture library, all the photos are showing up as icons and you have to preview each one individually to see what it actually is. Is there a way of changing the settings so that each picture shows up as a thumbnail or something so you can see what's there at a glance instead of having to go through them one by one.
Thanks

Windows 7 is old hat, you should be on Windows 8.1, that will make Windows 7 look really good.

PS Have you clicked on the view button?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Camera Codec pack when I got W7 and that allowed all sorts of image file formats to display as true image thumbnails when 'icons' was selected in Windows Explorer ...

After installing this small (15MB) Codec, this is what my photo directories look like in Windows Explorer ...

In your window, right click -> View -> Tiles.

    Right, still no further forward.
I have clicked on every view there is and it makes no odds to what the icon/picture looks like, just give me different sizes arranged in a different order. Have downloaded the Microsoft camera thingy and that also hasn't changed anything.
All I'm getting is identical images of a bland landscape type thing (the one showing up as large icons on the tutorial), regardless of what the picture is or the view that I use.
They're also showing up in the preview pane as the icon rather than the photo image.
    Any more ideas?

What is the file format of the images?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

    Ok, just sorted it.
Rummaging around the innards (as it were) I found a bit where whoever set it up had checked a box saying to always show icons not thumbnails. There's an hour of my life wasted. Two if you include yesterday fannying around.
Still, tis done now. Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Pop open Explorer. Tools > Folder Options > View - assuming your administrator hasn't disabled this - and make sure that "always show icons, never thumbnails" is unchecked:

EDIT: Cor, you fixed it in the time it took me to upload that screenshot.
