AA Breakdown Cover Complaint. Can Anyone Help?
Comments
-
You tried to defraud the AA by taking out a policy for a broken down car and claiming that it broke down after taking out the policy?
Its a breakdown service not fix your car because you dont want to service. Because you used the service then you wont be getting any refund.
If you think £300 for a clutch is expensive then just wait until you buy a car with a dual mass flywheel. Over £1000 for some of them.
You didn't pay £95 for a service that you do not need. You paid £95 for a service and used it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I am wondering if anyone can help me here... I took out AA breakdown cover on Tuesday morning gone on the believe that they would be able to fix my car which broke down the night before. I paid for the whole year up front of £95 instead of the £9.99 per month option (because we thought it would be cheaper to do it that way and all the problems would be sorted) I didn't contact AA customer service until Thursday gone and said that the car broke down that very same morning..
That's not the issue at all. When the AA guy came out to fix my car they advise that it would need a new clutch and also the battery was faulty. There was no point in fixing the battery until the clutch was fixed. The AA guys say he could take the car home or to a garage but only to one
I called my local garage and they quoted me £256 for a new clutch which was a bit steep. So I told the AA guy to take it home because I thought I was going to scrap it. Could of hours latter after ringing around a lot of garages I found somewhere that could do the whole lot including battery and recovery cost for £247..
So now I am out of pocket big time. AA could not fixed my car at all. So I have wasted £95 pounds on a service that I don't need.
Is there anyway that I can get the money back?
I got more than half my outlay back - which I thought was more than reasonable as I'd used the service,
my advice, get the T&C form as strong an argument as you can and see what holes you can find in it.0 -

Cant you find these holes for the OP,since you are well versed in the T&Cs?0 -
LOL this guy shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a 2+tonne motor vehicle is this is the kind of logic and common sense he has0

I really think the thread from the OP is a windup, but in case it's not and to keep things simple, andydiysaver, why dont you just give OP the money you got back from the AA, that way it gives the OP what he wants with no hassles and save you looking at all those T&C's, and I do think you would need to look at them again, as you never know they may have changed?0 -
So you paid for a service and used that service yet managed to get a refund and you wont tell the OP how?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

OP, you sound like the guy who's car broke down near me.
He put a note in the screen saying 'broken down, back in a while'. 2 weeks later, an AA truck was parked behind the car trying to get it repaired.Never Knowingly Understood.

You should take them to court and claim a new car as compo.0

I was in a similar situation to yourself a few weeks ago with my diesel Megane. Although my policy started before the car broke down.
My car died while driving home, revved high & billowed smoke, I luckily had the foresight to join the AA for the breakdown and repair cover after seeing their adverts which are reassuring...
AA guy came out, he didn't even lift the bonnet of the car after I told him what happened and said the turbo had "gone". He recommended a garage and towed me there.
My car was sitting in the garage for a week before the AA called to say they required my service and MOT documents, I sent these to them. Another week later although the garage has diagnosed and priced the problem (blown turbo=£649+VAT) the AA called me to say they are sending an independent assessor to inspect the fault.
A day later the AA called me (strangely asked if I accepted the call being recorded) and said the assessor found that the damage was caused through wear and tear. It was a very heated phone call. I will point out that when explaining the turbo failure the AA adviser stated to me that 90% of turbo's fail is because of wear and tear, so although the AA cover your turbo they do not cover ANYTHING that is wear and tear, shrewd and sneaky move. They then informed me that I was liable for all garage costs that are outstanding as they would not be covering anything. Needless to say I have filed a complaint and no matter the outcome I will be cancelling my cover
Points to take in about this service;- The AA will get out of paying anyway possible.
- They hold back a lot of vital information.
- There own T&C's seem intentionally confusing.
Looking at your original post you clearly tried to cheat the AA by joining after you broke down. You used the service so you are very lucky to get anything back.0 -
The AA is emergency roadside assistance for vehicles that where were roadworthy at the time of the policy was taken out, they are not a full garage service on wheels that are simply there to you avoid paying necessary repair costs at a garage, it is also an insurable policy that states the vehicle must be in a roadworthy condition when the policy was taken out. What you are attempting is fraud,. What next wait until your house is burgled, or you accidently damage your television then take out a contents insurance policy to claim from these items.0
