Weekend away with toddlers

  • I can highly recommend hiring a cottage, and going out for your meals. That way you get away to a favourite spot, have separate rooms to live in with the regular conveniences.

I have stayed in some lovely places in Pembrokeshire and Dorset if you would like a recommendation.

I refuse to stay in hotels now as it is so impractical with bed times.

Now adays we have an early supper out at a restaurant/pub and stay out as late as we feel able and go back to pop little one in bed while we sit and watch a good dvd and chill out. I'm not one for entertainment at holiday camps so it suits us really well.

In terms of holidays abroad, we tend to go to Mark Warner which is fantastic for child care in the day and baby listening in the evenings, but it isn't as brash as previous holiday tour companies I have been on. I'm really only after the odd pub quiz and background music in the evenings, not one for Mr & Mrs contests etc

I have also heard Euro Camps are fantastic for young families

Go to Center Parcs in Europe, it's far cheaper than the UK.

We've nearly always done self-catering in cottages with our children. Now they're a little older we're trying the odd hotel as well. They enjoy camping as well and you can camp with them from any age.

If you're looking for a cheap holiday collect the vouchers in the Sun next January and book one of their cheap caravan holidays, only £9.50 per person.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Buy a tent (When the rain stops!!!)
You can get away every weekend for next to nothing. Put the kids to bed, and sit outside with your chosen tipple/a good book/game of swingball etc etc.
We never used hotels after we had kids as we found we had to go to bed as early as they did (unless you got a hotel with a balcony. SC cottages (a bit dear though) and static caravans /wooden cabins are much better. A tent is the cheapest by far though.

camping is the best! (now i never thought I'd say that), but since having children. We've done all sorts of hols, all inclusive in spain, self catering in france but the children have enjoyed camping in the new forest the best!! It's so cheap and you can keep your tent for years.

Were ever you end up, remember it's not like the holidays you had before you had the babies! No rest!!! lol
