Weekend away with toddlers

Hello
I'm fed up and need a weekend away - I've posted on the holidays board for more specific advice but was wondering if any of you more experienced parents had any suggestions for us
How do you manage to have a weekend away with small children (ours are 1 and nearly 3). If we go to a hotel like travelodge, what could we do once they've gone to sleep, except sit in the ensuite?? Are holiday camps with caravans/chalets better - at least we'd have a separate room to sit in. Any other suggestions? If it was just us two there are lots of cheap deals out there, but not much for young families (not that we're young, we're ancient, but you know what I mean!).
Any suggestions gratefully received!

We had a caravan break last week and my kids are similar ages. It was pretty good that you could get the kids down to sleep then you had the living space to yourself. Had the weather been warm enough we would have sat just outside the door enjoying a glass of wine. I have to say though - even though a caravan is a small place - we still took the baby monitors.
We've also done CentreParcs but it's pricey but you can book a babysitter there and have a night out and know you're only a few minutes away.

We Have Always Done Haven Holidays Which Are Good With Young Kids. Sometimes Though Even These Can Be Pricey And Now The Youngest Is 4 We Are Looking At Camping!!!
I Agree That Cheap Holidays Can Be Available For 2 For Finding Holidays That Don't Cost The Earth For A Family Of 5 Is Impossible.now mum of 4!!!0 -
my kids are 15 months apart and we have been taking them away for weekend breaks since they were tiny. We use Travellodges as a rule as they are so cheap and you all sleep in the same room. Once they are asleep we just have a tot and watch TV but we keep them up alot later than their usual 7pm bedtime.
We did Edinburgh, York, Weston, Great Yarmouth, Blackpool, Southern Ireland. They were all great weekends and much better than a week when they take alot of entertaining.0 -
Caravan or chalet type holiday definately. If you travel lodge you'll go mad as you don't even have any facilities to feed them their favourite food but have to eat out all the time.
Be brave and look for a late availablity caravan if you can on the continent- even just the other end of the tunnel. A mid week- mid week break wont break the bank and you might even, in early july (before schools break up) get nice enough weather to sit outside in the evening with a glass of wine and relax......(and next year, the 3yr old willbe able to go to kids club- that is a whol 2 hours some days when you can pop the youngest to nap and do, well what ever you want to in the van:rotfl:0 -
we last went away to france in august last year and ds3 was16 months and ds1 &2 are older but (i know it depends on weather) we were gradually eating a slightly bit later due to getting back from day trips to beaches etc and would walk around the evening fair ground and markets...i know its a case of "they're in a routine for bed" etc at certain times but they'll sleep in a pushchair if they're tired and in the end we just thought its their holiday too so just go with that flow..just keep their food timing on a fairly even keel but let the rest take care of itself...enjoy
edited as forgot to say that we stayed on campsite in mobile home thingy and some nights we'd sit out and play scrabble etc...don't know why thats important but just thought i'd mention it"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...
until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it"
