OS DAILY - Saturday 21st December 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still very dark here, but sounds quite blustery.

DH and Ds1 up and gone to work stupid early. Hence the reason I've now been awake for approaching 2 hours. My body clock has completely gone all over the place - and I'm shattered by 9-9.30pm fall asleep then wake after a couple of hours sleep and then can't get back off to sleep until the early hours of the morning - need to address this otherwise it will be a bad habit. Only working Monday this week - then I'm off until 6th January so will get myself back to a regular pattern before then.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans, stuffed mushrooms and salad for the menfolk, I had mushroom omlette, a stuffed mushroom and salad. Tonight we're having pork chops - I'd forgotten to get them out to defrost last night - but have just got them out, will do mash, veg and gravy with them.

I'm looking forward to today - I'm going to visit 1 of my oldest friends to take their gifts - must make a bit more effort to get together we keep saying that we will then time and commitments get in the way.

If DH get's time whilst he's at work he will drop in on his grandad - he's got some stuff (I assume its xmas prezzies) for family this way and has asked us if we could collect and distribute them. I'm really cross with DH's parents as they've not been anywhere near him for over 18 months - am just completely disgusted at her attitude (it's a long story but he hasn't done anything wrong, she is really money orientated and thought she was in line to get some from a relative that died and it turned out grandad had the entitlement not his children) - to say MIL was not pleased is an understandment!! She's not been near him since then only to demand that he should split the money and give it straight to them.......he refused and said he would give them £x amount each per year - that isn't good enough for MIL. She's also now blanking her only sister - we can only assume due to the same issue. I've seen how vindictive and snide she can be for years but tried to keep out of the arguments. If something directly involves me or my family I do the necessary to protect my immediate loved ones. Life's to short to become bitter and twisted - I've already said to DH she's going to become a very lonely, bitter, twisted old woman - if his dad passes away first - as she has alienated so many family and friends. DH is more disgusted than me - and cannot believe how she's being - it's really upset him to see how she is behaving. If DH doesn't get time to drop in on grandad then we'll go over this afternoon.

I also need to make a cheesecake and profiteroles for tomorrow - us, bro and SIL and my sis, her DH and her children are all getting together at mum and dad's for lunch as bro and SIL are going to spend xmas with her family down south, so be good to see them before xmas. Bro and sis are organising the main course, I'm organising desserts. We organise the food between us as mum gets a bit flustered now - insists she can cope but gets a bit panicky - we just say we can organise it and do it and she can help - she floats about organising tables etc and we make her feel like she does her bit - we all try to make her feel like she's helping but she's getting older now - so it's our turn to look after them.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning Everyone :)

We survived yesterday!!!! I'm also now ready for Christmas too :)

Today DD1 has a play date, so I'll take the girls. I'll deliver my second to last gift at the same time :)

DH is going to finish the dusting and Hoover the house while were out. During DD1 naptime I've got 5 dozen mince pies to bake. Then it's time to start enjoying Christmas.

We have visitors this afternoon :)

Dinner is Chilli, I may try and make it while the pies are baking and reheat later. But we'll see how it works.

Better go get ready now, I've got to be gone in 1,5hrs (takes much longer to get the girls ready!)

I hope everyone has a great day today x

    Good morning everyone :j

I was up with the lark again this morning as I had an attack of cramp in my calf muscle which woke me up very sharpish as you can imagine . After going and standing in the kitchen (cold floor) I decided to make a cuppa before it all gets very busy today. My mum is popping round on her bi-annual visit to our house so I have to clean and tidy (nothing cleans like company coming!) and my friend wants to come over and give out her presents. I'm going to sound like a right ungrateful cow now but she buys really unsuitable and extremely tacky gifts. It's all plastic tat and hideous crap from the charity shop. I have nothing against charity shops but honestly if you could see what we had from her last year....a second hand bell to ring if you want sex , second hand microwave slippers...eeeew just eeew and so on. I would so rather have nothing than for her to waste her hard earned money on tat that's just going to end up in the bin. She is a lovely generous person with a massive heart but very lacking in self confidence and I wouldn't want to upset her for the world. I've tried saying we should save our money as I'm broke but she really wants to buy us presents. Oh well, I shall unwrap them and say thank you and give her a big hug.

DD13 is next to me watching the Santa Clause film so I'm feeling very festive now :santa2:. I've decided not to wait till the new year to make myself over so I had a shower last night and started to use some of my lotions and potions I have accumulated and I still smell rather lovely this morning even if I do say so myself :rotfl:I shall file and paint my nails and even wear some makeup today. My mum will be so pleased.

Anyway, I'd better start my tidying, I have my big Christmas shop arriving between 10 and 11 so I want to clean out the fridge etc in preparation. Take care everyone and I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Big hugs to all who would like one and don't forget....only 4 more sleeps :T
    Cheers m'dears xx
  • Morning all
Fish have been fed, hubby has had his cooked breakfast & been dropped at work.
I've been to the local sorting office to collect a parcel, washed another 20 mugs, only 20 left now, The WM is on as is the DW & I have a turkey cooking, not the Christmas turkey, which is a boned rolled crown, this is just a random turkey that happened to find it's way into my kitchen, and as it won't fit in my freezer as it is too big for the drawers, I've decided to cook it & dissect it so it does fit in the freezer!
Thanks for the song Tru, hugs to Molly, Hilly & Jools, PP is your DD back from uni?
I shall do the last of my shopping on Monday when hubby is working 8 'til 6, I need to buy some chocolate for our teenage DGS, the veg & milk & cream.
I'm aiming for a restful break & trying to think of things I can do to up my income ready for when I am forced to leave my current job, any suggestions for suitable employment for a partially sighted geriatric on a postcard please.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning everyone. Feeling very sleepy this morning!
Need to tidy and clean kitchen & put dishwasher on this morning, wrap the rest of the presents and tidy living room. Going to pick my mum up this afternoon and bring her over to ours for a couple of hours. We will drink lots of coffee, eat shortbread and watch some stand up comedy :-) then we will take her home, but have a drive around our estate first to see what decorations people have outside their houses! Then we need to stop by BF's mums house briefly then we can finally get back home!
Planning on doing very little tomorrow except for baking some cakes to take into work on Tuesday for those of us who are working!
Hope everyone has a good day xxx
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j
  • Good morning everyone :)

Have woken up full of a cold, throat is sore and head is banging. I am not impressed but at least it gives me a chance to clear it before Christmas.

Need to get all bathroom stuff in the washing machine and get scrubbing in there, then tidy and clean the kitchen. Maybe the bleach will help with my cold :rotfl:

DD has decided her Christmas plans .... until she changes them again. At the moment it means DD, DGG and DD's friend will be with us on Christmas Eve and stay over for Christmas morning, then they are going home to cook Christmas lunch for various other friends. DH is very excited as he says this means we can take them home, go for a walk on the beach, then do what we want for the remainder of Christmas Day, this won't involve anything to do with cooking traditional lunch etc. Personally I can't see it happening but we will see.

Jools - love and hugs to you and your family for this weekend.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Hi everyone,

We're off to get the Christmas tree this morning then to a diy place to get some fixings for DH to play with. I know I'm very lucky that he is so good with his hands and never does a less than perfect job but I get so bored looking at nuts and bolts etc.

Then I want to make mince pies and the bean stew for dinner, we had fish last night and I want to stay meatless today because I know the next few days are going to be very meat heavy. DH will probably want some sizzled chorizo in his stew though.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Good morning everyone :)

Its abit windy here this morning, just been to sort all the animals out and two of the rabbits hutches has had the covers ripped off and its all wet through inside the hutches so DH is out there at the mo putting fresh bedding in, the chickens are refusing to come out - cannot blame them, so I've put the breakfast for them inside the coop.

NMLC - your MIL sounds very much like my mother, for years now I've said she is going to end up all alone due to her horrible nasty behaviour, she has already upset my sister who has refused to speak to her for over a year now :( I only cope with her cos I live 180miles away.

TTFTM - Hope your feeling better soon x

Chilli & rice for tea today, so will get on with preparing that ready, DS wants to make some shortbread and some biscuits so do that with him to, then it will be a day watching a few Christmas films, its much too cold to go anywhere.

Hope you all have a lovely day x
