International texting apps?

Does anyone know of any free iphone apps that allow you to send free international texts (America, specifically), without needing to set up an in-app number?

Thanks.

Not entirely sure what you're meaning with setting up an in-app number, but the most used apps are whatsapp and Viber.

Whatsapp is free for the first year but payable therafter. Viber is free.

Both require the person you're texting to also have the app.

The apps I'd found before required (or provided, I'm not sure) users to sign up for a new phone number when registering, kind of like a username I suppose.

Viber doesn't mention that and looks promising. Thanks. :)

Whatsapp doesn't need you to set up a new number, although you will need to download the app and ditto the other person.

Neither whatsapp nor Viber require that. Your normal telephone number is what it works from. Neither have any login needed either. Both require the other person to have the app installed too.

I prefer whatsapp to Viber even though it does carry a yearly sub but it's a very small charge.

Thanks. I'll have a look at whatsapp too.
