We call this the mirror test and it takes just a few minutes. It comes in two parts.
1. Stop reading and go and stand in front of a full length mirror. No need to undress - just as you are. What do you see.
Tatty, unflattering clothes, pale pasty skin, unwashed hair…….Don't despair - these are easily fixed and you will be starting that right now.
From now on it's all about grooming. Get that right and the rest will follow.
It doesn't matter if you are overweight. Good grooming will disguise a multitude of sins. Don't wait until you are slim - start grooming - pronto.
So from now on - it's about washing and styling your hair, wearing clean, well ironed clothes, nicely manicured nails (diy manicures are just as good as professional ones - it's just practice). Don't forget clean shoes.
Make up is optional - if you like it wear it, if it makes you feel uncomfortable then don't bother.
A squirt of perfume makes you smell divine and makes you feel good.
That's it - it really is that simple.
Start with paying attention to your grooming and looking after your clothes. You don't need to do it for anyone else - you do this for you. For your own pride and self respect.
2. Whilst you are standing in front of the mirror pay close attention to your posture. How are you standing. Straight and tall or slouched and hunched, shoulders round your ears.
Stand tall and straight, shoulders back and down, tuck your tummy in. How does that look. I bet you look half a stone slimmer.
So your road to fabdom starts with just those two things.
Grooming and posture. Work on those.

I have genuinely done extremely little today... got a mountain of work to but lounging around was preferable

My word has to be positivity. I am naturally a half empty glass and I want to change that starting right now.
I have a friend who always looks for the good in every situation however dire things may be. I love being around her - such an inspiration.0 -
Some great words - I have drawn them up in a list. Sorry if I missed any.
Bitsy - would it be a good idea to add them in your first post - as a reminder to us all. Would it be a lot of work for you.

I thought that I might go for organised, but as it has already been chosen I think my word will be Today as in stop thinking about it, not starting whatever needs doing, because something (I know not what) is holding me back.
There is no legitimate reason that I have not planted those bulbs, made an appointment at the hearing clinic, e-mailed two friends or started that huge great of paper work that just needs filing, or painted my toe nails.
So as it is time for bed (must remove make-up), my word from tomorrow will be today. LOLThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Just wanted to post and say how great it is to see LL posting step-by-step ideas again on how to go about fabbing. That tells be a huge amount in itself! Thanks LL!:T
I've just done the 'stand in front of the mirror' thing and I'm fairly pleased.:) I've been doing my favourite 'people watching' thing recently both in RL and on TV/newspapers/magazines. It's similar to the mirror technique. What I do is look at some personality (or just people in the street), check how old they are compared with me and then make a comparison with how we've weathered. I know superstars have all sorts of 'help' but generally I'm really pleased. I just wish I could afford to employ a hairdresser.;)
Pleased with what I did today. Hair wash and condition, shower, total slathering with moisturisers, make up, smart/trendy clothes. Food is still a bit in [STRIKE]festive[/STRIKE] junk mode.
I'm still working on my word.:o0 -
Ok so I've just done the stand in front of the mirror test and I'm horrified! Tatty dressing gown, scrapped back hair although my nails are immaculate (prof done, not by me;-) they always make me feel better when they're done!
Time to throw out the tatty d gown and pjs I think!
One thing people might be able to advise me on, I have very long hair and rarely have the time to style daily, what does everyone else do with long hair besides tie it back?Starting weight: 14st 02lb - 15.07.2013 (WW)
Goal Weight: 10st 07lb

Finally had 7 hours of solid sleep - it must be weeks since that last happened - and I feel like a new woman.
Will pop back later with plans etc and, of course, a word but I'm grasping my teeny bit of motivation and going for a long walk with the dog to blow away the cobwebs.
Great to see so many of us posting and getting a grip!:D:D:D0
