Infrared Heating

Hi there,
I did some research about heating systems that can be installed in a new property. I am considering installing infrared heating panels. Anyone has used them at home or office? Any opinions about this particular heating?
Many thanks.

Here's a thread about it. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4737507
Here's my post from that thread -
Shall I talk about what infrared heating is, and why it is used in industrial units and factories? It produces heat like that from the sun - it penetrates your clothes and touches your skin and so when you are in it's glare you feel OK in a freezing warehouse putting stuff in boxes. It is economical in the sense that you're not trying to heat the whole draughty warehouse. Which would be pointless as the loading doors are open. It heats your skin when you are within it's rays.
If you want to heat your home cheaply with electricity then buy an air source heat pump.I am the Cat who walks alone0 -
Thank you for your opinion. May I ask you why air source heat pump would be more efficiency than infrared heating in the property? As far as I know, it is much more expensive than infrared heating panels or infrared underfloor heating.0

Infra red heating is lot quieter in use than an air source heat pump.
We use it in our village hall and I'm considering it for my workshop. I wouldn't use it in my house though, except maybe in the bathroom for the odd chilly morning when the central heating is turned off.0 -
You will find that fluffymuffy seems to think that the answer to all heating questions is a heat pump.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
This is an interesting article and following discussion on the merits (or demerits) of air source heat pumps...
Time to stop promoting air source heat pumps and ask why they don’t work in the UK0 -
Exact opposite actually. ASHP is one of the most cost effective ways of heating a home with electric. As far as I know, it is much more expensive than infrared heating panels or infrared underfloor heating.
Storage heating is also reasonably cost effective.
IR panels are expensive to buy and expensive to run.

Sorry, but I think IR panels are an expensive waste of time and money.0 -
We have air to air systems at work and they function perfectly well here in the UK.Gloomendoom wrote: »This is an interesting article and following discussion on the merits (or demerits) of air source heat pumps...

I don't see what possible problems could come from them, they don't cost too much to run either.0 -
If you are already using infrared heaters, do they have any noise or vibrations? Are you happy with the heat they provide? I think that I will definitely use infrared heating in my garage.Gloomendoom wrote: »Infra red heating is lot quieter in use than an air source heat pump.

As fluffymuffy pointed out, IR is like heat from the sun. Only the bits of you that it is shining on get warm so, although acceptable in a workshop that would otherwise be extremely costly to heat due to poor insulation and drafts, they wouldn't really be suitable for domestic use.
There is no noise or vibration from them.
There was a thread on here a while ago about noisy ASHPs...

I have heard that people who have asthma, bronchial illness or arthritis are using infrared heating because it improves blood circulation and immune system as heats bodies directly as objects.. also, reduces dust circulation in rooms. Is this a myth or reality??0
