They are very clever, they don't actually say you are getting the XBox but word it so you think you are. Experienced conmen they are, this lot have been around for years and have had the dubious pleasure of having been on Watchdog under a different name.
Did you contact your local trading standards? Contacting the hotel might help too, often it seems the hotels don't know exactly who they have let the premises to or what the sale is going to entail.0 -
They sell the Xbox's, PS3's and the like to their plants in the shop, you on the other hand are talked into buying a £2000 watch for £50 that is actually worth just £2Bought, not Brought0

Glad I read this forum before going to one of these things.
Diamond Sales are appearing today at:
Copthorne Merry Hill Hotel, Brierley Hill, West Midlands.
I am almost tempted to go - just to watch the scam in progress.
Everything on their list is listed at ridiculous prices.
They must choose random hotels across the country every week with the same set of goods.
You would of thought trading standards would of shut a company like this down by now for their immoral selling techniques? Maybe not enough complaints to trading standards regarding this outfit?0 -
Some Trading Standards departments do try and close them down. The forerunner if this present scam is the "Mock Auction" where a company would take over an empty shop on a short lease and sell goods in a similar manner to Diamond Sales.
I was walking through the main shopping street of Ipswich a few years ago and noticed Trading Standards had put up posters on every lamppost warning the public of these "sales". They had even stuck a couple of posters on the very window of the shop where the auction was taking place. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
i just got a flyer this morning they are appearing at aintree racecourse tomoz 22 oct 7pmA shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.
A young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent,
the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law.0 -
They are appearing tomorrow, Nov 5th, at the Holiday Inn, Crest Way, Barnwood, Gloucester, at 3:30pm. Actually, there was a similar sale, with similarly convincing literature, in September last year, hosted allegedly by Stock Solutions UK Limited. I'm going to make sure that the local authorities know all about this by tomorrow morning, but it's unlikely that they'll act, even to question the legality of the sale. I have a suspicion that these people really have nothing to do with Diamond Sales, who seem to deal mostly in jewellry. After all, anyone can find a reputable but relatively obscure company on the net, then print out literature using their address fraudulently. The Diamond Sales website mentions several events, but nothing later than May, so they may have gone out of business.0

Glad I stumbled on this thread. I did a search on the details on the flyer that popped in my letterbox today. There's a scam / mock auction on at the Marsh Mills Novotel in Plymouth (Devon) tomorrow, Saturday the 12th April 2008. The details of the company are:
Grosvenor Sales, PO BOX 31 Manchester M8 8FF Tel 0870 803 3214
I think it's the same outfit mentioned in this thread. Although by the time this gets listed in Google the damage will have been done. Not sure if Trading Standards are open tomorrow either.

I have said it before on here, but it's worth repeating, but why does it seem that the various hotels and other venues don't seem to mind what sort of events take place on their premises? As long as they get their money it seems they are content to do business with any rogue or dodgy dealer
For the dodgy dealer to be able to say that his "auction" is being held at a prestigious address, such as "Novotel" or "Holiday Inn", adds an air of respectability to their operation. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
