Reaching end of 12 months cashback deal

I've had a look on previous threads, but haven't found the answer - so forgive me if this is a regular question and please point me in the right direction.

I have a 12 months free cashback offer with CoolNewMobile on an Orange contract which started on 29 June 2006. I want to take out a new similar offer and port my number to another network, but I'm not sure about how to time it. My final cashback claim will be the 12 month invoice issued on 1 July 2007. I can't work out when to cancel my contract with Orange - I assume that I can't do it before 1 July or I'll fall foul of the T&Cs and not be eligible for cashback. There doesn't seem to be any way of avoiding paying Orange for a month and starting a new contract after that - or does anybody know better? And when should I ask for a PAC code?

Thanks for your help. And by the way, I've been pleased with CoolNewMobile who have paid up so far.

As long as you have paid your full 12 monthly bills then you are ok, you don't need to cancel as porting your number automatically does that anyway. Porting usually takes 5 working days so time it for the port to go ahead a few days before the contract ends and you'll be fine.
  • I think that means I have just missed the deadline. If I request a PAC now, it probably won't get activated before 1 July when the next billing period starts so I guess I need to wait until towards the end of July. Unless I've misunderstood ......

    Thanks for your help

Last time I went over the 12 months by a few days they just pro-rate the monthly cost and I ended up paying a few quid. Whether that is still the
    case:confused:
Get your PAC straight away and port as soon as.
  • Thanks. I knew it couldn't be that easy! Orange require 30 days notice, so I'm stuck with them until 23 July, but at least I know whereI stand now and can time the buying and porting. Next year I'll be a bit more on the ball!!!

I just left O2 earlier this month and I didn't have to give them any notice, just get the PAC and go.

Ask for the PAC code as suggested then port it over.

You will be disconnected from Orange when the porting is complete they may not charge you from then on.

T Mobile originally told me that they require 30 days, unless I ported my number over, then they told me I would just be charged for the time until the number is ported - about 9 days in this case as I hit all the bank holidays at the end of May!

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm in the same situation as the OP, except I'm with O2.

I regularly read the O2 retentions thread and am carefully planning what I would like from them, but if the worst comes to the worst, I'll ask for my PAC.

My question is, if I have to go down this route, is this the best way to do it:
    1. Get PAC from O2 at circa beginning of 12th month
    2. Port number to PAYG SIM (already have T-Mobile one, will this do as a short term measure?)
    3. Wait about a week and request PAC from PAYG provider
    4. Port number to new contract provider - probably back to O2 via DialAPhone
    Thanks for any replies.

PS - Does the O2 cancellation period of notice apply to porting or only to permanent cancellations?

Orange told me I can cancel my contract by phone the same day, without notice.
