I paid the funds was given a completion date, collected the keys. The paperwork I signed was prior to me paying at my solicitor.

Your solicitor isn't being unhelpful. The matter is out of their hands entirely.

    What has the vendor said?

The seller doesn't know i've gutted his house (which was a wreck anyway) and I have put a deadline on the sale. I've asked them to give me a completion date by 5pm tomorrow if not I will be pulling out the sale (which I don't want to do).
It is now crucially important that you do NOT deal with the vendor direct - only deal through your solicitor. And keep hold of those keys for the time being - don't hand them over to the vendor in person. If you do need to hand them back, do it via your solicitor.

This is going to take a little while to unravel and establish the truth. If in the meantime you are confronted about the gutting you have done, just say "I shall be preparing a bill for the work" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - No seriously!

The first question which your solicitor needs to answer is whether you completed. Just get on to him and establish that fact and come back here. The only acceptable answers are 'Yes' or 'No' although if he really does not know, you must press him for when he will be able to tell you.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

I've already handed the keys back to the vendor as they came round to my rented property and asked for them back.

I plan on simply ignoring the phone to the estate agents anyway, as they have caused me nothing but grief

Or am I completely within my rights to do so..
Thank you very much for your help.

If the above is true, why did you say this in your opening post:

"I've asked them to give me a completion date by 5pm tomorrow if not I will be pulling out the sale (which I don't want to do)."

Sounds like you have been working on a property in the belief that completion was a formality. You also say you have gutted the house without the seller knowing - if you had completed it would be of no concern of his.

I don't think your main concern should be exactly when you complete but to actually complete. You have altered someone else's house!
