The best O2 tariff ever from retentions?

Over the last week I have been trying to tell O2 that I want to disconnect when my min 12 months comes up in July. I sent them a posted letter and emails before reaching the 30 day notice period and got back some emails acknowledging the fact. Unfortunately they want to disconnect me about on the 4th of August because they think I had an upgrade on that date last year. This date is also when I took out my 2nd contract with O2 last year and is what has confused them. Anyway someone from O2 called me to admit their error and also attempted to change my mind. I was adamant that I wanted out and he eventually relented but he did make an offer which I accepted when I realised fully what it was worth. He said:

1. I could keep my number active which I thought was good because I was not going to transfer it as I was going to get another casback contract and was not going to bother with all the hassle of pac codes.

2. I could have 25 minutes and 25 texts. I was not too sure about this until.......

3. The 25 minutes and texts are free every month. Yes that's right FREE!

Now this will come into effect when original contract is cancelled in July but if this is as good as it sounds I might not even have to take out another contract as I could easily survive on 25 minutes. I'll just use it as sparingly as I would have had I got a pay as you go phone.

I asked him to send me something in writing so I'll know more when I get that but bloomin heck you can't beat this for an O2 tariff if it is for real!
Has anyone else been offered anything similar? Could there be hidden catches or am I staring a gifthorse in the mouth?

It won't be free, there is still a cost but one you won't pay* for

Am guessing they did not offer a phone for this deal if so i know the deal you got.

    Old Anytime 25 25 mins xnet and 25 txts @ £16pm
Resign Credit for £100 to tie you to the contract
£92 Lump sum credit added along with the £100 Resign

Thus you have the money on the bill and as long as you don't user more then the £16pm you will never have to pay a bill.

tbh i thought they put a stop to offering this tariff as there's no point in it for O2.

Just shows what agents will do to meet the targets.

Over the contract dates, it will only confuse the agent that deals with the account at first glance, they have to go into the order on the account and match up the phone number with the one your enq about to get the right date where as the system already knows which number has been upgraded.

not quite 'best'. O2 CPW offered me 750 off peak xnet mins + 250txts for free for whole year . OR 100mins + 100txts peak.

And would credit my account with £300 at the start.

Apex the contract sounds like the one you describe. I was not offered a phone.
They did not say anything about the £16 resign and lump sum credit but when I get the further info that I requested I'll check on the call and text costs to confirm it.

I gave O2 a call to clarify the contract deal. I got a £75 credit in my account already so I thought I had better understand exactly what was going to happen. It turns out that the £75 is there to cover the monthly rental of £6 per month for one year(yeah, yeah I know that 12x6<>75) and that I have got 25 any time/network minutes & 25 texts. So all in all this is a great bonus for me and almost makes me feel a little bad about cancelling my 2nd O2 contract but then I remember that they will no longer allow 08xx to come out inclusive minutes for new contracts.

    In that case

    O2 25 @ £16pm
£10 pm subs discount for 12 months
£75 Resign Credit in stead of a phone.

    :)

I got the free 25 minutes and 25 texts per month deal exactly a year ago. I don't tend to make many long calls, so I managed to stick within my allowance for all but one month, so it did work out completely free for me. However, when my contract came up for renewal at the weekend, they flat out refused to give me the deal again. I can't blame them, as it's obvious that they're not going to make any profit out of me. The best they offered was to credit me £100, but this would effectively mean me paying nearly £8 per month (12 x £16 = £192, minus £100 = £92 for a year) for a really poor amount of minutes. Therefore I just asked them to send the PAC code and left it at that.
