And they all follow me every where.
the only time they are on their own is when they all go outside in the garden to play.

  • One of my cats follows me to the loo. She sometimes gets there before me. Once in the early hours I went to sit down and felt fur, not toilet seat. Not sure who was more surprised, me or her.

Like Tea Lover, mine want to be in the bathroom wiht me too. My boy kitty has been known to bust in and sit on the bathmat until I'm done.
  • Normal! Harry does this with me and my DH as well :) He's also a rescue.

Bailie tries to follow me everywhere but there are some things I won't tolerate. She is only allowed upstairs for a bath. So, there's a gate at the bottom of the stairs. If I go up to the loo, sometimes she'll whine. I call down and tell her to shut up and she does but she's still sitting at the gate when I reappear. Her bed is in the kitchen and that is where she lives most of the time. If I tell her "bed" and leave the room, shutting the door behind me she'll watch me walk away then once I'm out of sight she gets on her bed and goes to sleep until I come back. It's actually much better for her to be shut in the kitchen, then at least she knows what to expect. She gets left on her own for about 6 hours a day, 4 days a week while I work. She gets walked before I go, for anything up to an hour. Then she gets walked again when I come home and again in the evening. Separation anxiety is constantly on my mind, I worry about it a lot and I regularly record her on the laptop while I'm out to check she's ok. So far all she does is sniff around for anything she thinks she might be able to eat, pulls down the tea towel off the rail and lays on it and then she goes to sleep. I try to keep her routine as regular as possible as dogs are creatures of habit.

  • Our Teddy follows both of us wherever we go. Even if he's sleeping on the sofa next to me, if my OH gets up and goes to the kitchen/bathroom, Ted will get up and follow him. Our bathroom is downstairs though. He'll be more interested in joining me in the bathroom if I shut the door. If I leave it open he'll wander in and out again. If I'm in the kitchen he'll often lie spreadeagled on the carpet in our kitchen doorway and just watch me. He's NEVER gone more than 2 stairs up though, so he's never been upstairs at all. He just sits at the bottom of the stairs gazing upwards, waiting for us to come back down. At night, though, he goes to his bed no bother at all and doesn't make a whimper when we go up to bed.

My male dog does this. He's not a rescue but sticks to me like glue. He can be fast asleep and the second I make a move to stand up his eyes snap open and his nose is rammed into the back of my leg.

I love him to bits and it's quite sweet really but if I'm making a cuppa or whatever and take a step backwards without thinking, I've stood on his paws and feel really guilty!

This put a smile on my face, I could have written this as well, all of it :rotfl:

I think it's normal? My dog follows me everywhere as well and wherever I sit, he sits curled up at my feet. I've had him since he was 9 weeks old and never really thought of it as odd or anything...When he's alone, he's fine too. I think she's just happy to see you :)

  • As the title states, my dog follows me everywhere. We have had him around a year now. He was an abandoned dog from abroad.

Now, I love him a lot....I really do...but he even follows me to the toilet .... Is this normal? I don't mind most of the time but if I am doing something like tidying up and going upstairs and downstairs lots of time with washing etc he is literally one step behind. Even when I am just nipping upstairs to grab something or turning a light of he comes with me.
When I am having a shower he waits outside bathroom door for me. If I get out of bed to shut the door he gets out of his bed ready to follow me.

Like I said I love him a lot and most of the time it doesn't bother me but sometimes it does when I just really want to go to toilet in peace :)

He seems ok when we leave him for a few hours....neighbours say they don't hear him bark or whine at all and there is always a warm patch where he has been sleeping on the bed or sofa when we are out. So don't think its separation anxiety as such.

Does anyone else's pet do this? Do you mind? Is it normal?haha
My little dog did that for 15 years. Everywhere I went, he followed. He could be sound asleep on sofa & I'd quietly leave the room but within minutes he'd found me. We had to have him put to sleep last week and how I miss him following me everywhere.

Normal for me too. I have two dogs. The eldest follows me everywhere. The youngest only bothers if he thinks there's a snack in it for him lol.

When I come upstairs I close the door and he sits at the door waiting for me. I go in the kitchen, he does too. I sit down. He sits next to me. I swap seats. He does too. More so lately as my mum passed away a year ago so I assume he's worried I'll leave like she did.

But he's content to be left alone when I'm out, no barking and getting stressed etc. So I don't worry about it.
