What are your family Christmas traditions?

Ours, when children and now are:

We used to go to the Legion disco on Christmas Eve. Even did that when I was 18 as it was tradition!

It wasn't Christmas unless my Nan hand made the stuffing instead of using Paxo.

We have to play Trivial Pursuit in the evening and my Dad will always put the BeeGees on... Ouch.

My Mum still does us stockings with shampoo etc from Father Christmas.

OH and I will buy loads of party food just to ourselves to eat a few days before.

What are your family traditions, good or bad?

    Traditions? Hmm...

The dinner gets burnt apart from the Brussels that are like bullets.

The oldies fall asleep in front of the telly - gramps farting every now and again.

Fights break out over using the new toys.

    Happy days...
    :hello:

:rotfl:or in my case, really really inebriated watching of The Snowman on Christmas Eve with my three sisters, where we all [STRIKE]wail[/STRIKE] sing along beautifully and [STRIKE]throw ourselves about[/STRIKE] dance like graceful ballerinas. I am 27, sisters are 25, 20 and 17 :o
  • Real coffee, instead of instant, croissants and fresh orange juice for breakfast. After everyone has gone home and it's just me and dh , eating chocolates , watching tv , a snowball or two for me and later on a turkey sandwich . Watching the grandchildren open their presents in the afternoon has happened for the last 11 years too . Those are the best parts for me .

My first Christmas tradition is to fly up to my mums in Scotland.

We then go and do the food shopping together we do an aisle and a time and I pay for the drink.

Then a walk along Nairn or Lossiemouth beach Christmas Eve and then home for a buffet.

Bath and PJ's on to curl up on the sofa with my mum's massive throw.

Wake up at silly o'clock in the morning (about 4am) to open presents. Start with presents from my mum first (my brother and me are 27 & 23 and we still get huge sacks of presents :T). My brother is officially tea boy from that moment on.

Once presents are open then we have breakfast normally nice filtered coffee with croissant (nice butter and jam) and bucks fizz then sometimes bacon rolls. My brother has his vegan alternative :rotfl:

Then we tidy up the presents take them to our rooms at my mums except the DVD's which go in a pile by the tv to be watched over the coming days.

I help mum with lunch and my brother supervises my mum doing his vegan dinner :p

Then we have dinner and chill

There is a big glass bowl my mum decants the chocolates into from the various boxes and you are not allowed to top it up until all the chocolates are finished under pain of death :rotfl:

  • Get woken up by daughter at about 7am, she opens the presents in her pillowcase.

We then go downstairs and open the rest of them with a cup of tea.

For breakfast we have bacon sandwiches, daughter has requested croissants instead of bread for hers!

Daughter and I then go to church. My parents and niece will be visiting at some point in the morning.

Once we get back from Church, we have dinner, soup and bread (we do the Christmas meal over 2 meals as otherwise it's too much for my little girl and she would eat nothing). I will then start preparing the rest of the meal which is served about 5pm.

After that it will be vegging in front of the TV.

Leftover KFC for Santa on Xmas Eve :santa2: He prefers it to mince pies!
  • That just reminded me. I HAVE to watch the Snowman or it's just not Christmas. I was so excited for the Snowman and the Snowdog last year.

And of course, have to end the entire thing crying.

  • Christmas Carols on in the morning. Stocking opened first thing. Bacon rolls (only for DH this year, I'm having croissants with ham and cheese). Something special for the cats for breakfast. Opening presents in bed with something fizzy and lots of chocolate. Falling asleep watching a film on TV. Making long phone calls to relatives. Something different for Christmas dinner. More sleeping :) We dont have children (we are hopefully going to be starting IVF next year) but once we do, we will make new traditions.
