Sounds a lot to me. We are all electric (cooking, heating, lighting, washing etc) and average 22kwh a day over the year.

It goes down to 5-6 a day in the summer and has been up to 60 or more when it's been everso cold (-14 outside) in the winter. We are presently using about 25-30 a day.
We are at home all day and heat the house & water with electricity (with an air source heatpump). We also use the tumble dryer exclusively in the winter - no washing on the line between Oct and about May (it doesn't go out all that much in the summer either:()

Perhaps you should be reading your meter weekly and trying to reduce your consumption

yeah sorry i forgot to mention the useage is for last 36 days only (I take reads every month), I didn't mean over the year, my fault sorry (slap on wrist). I,m guessing for this time of year (last 30 days or so) its about right?

It's still a lot more than I'm using, the average for Sept was 14.7kwh a day, October was 29.1kwh a day and so far in Dec it's 29.8 as its so mild (last January was really cold - the worst we've had and we only managed an average of 48kwh a day.
It's a 1986 detached three bedroomed bungalow (140sq.m), out in the wild fenlands of Cambridgeshire. Its got cavity wall insulation, 15 year old double glazing and 300mm of loft insulation.

  • hmm could be due to our storage heaters, we have 4 on since last month, no doubt thats big the chunk of the 46kwh, pc is left on most days, don't watch tele that much only from 5-6pm till 11-12am, washing is done once a day, etc. will wait and see till next months read and see what useage over the 30 days will be, get an idea
    thanks for your reply anyway

I only take meter readings quarterly, but my usage for the last quarter has been 12 kWh a day, so 46 kWh a day sounds pretty high?

is that your summer bill? if so then 12kwh would explain it, cant see 12kwh plauseable for winter surely? (again last 30 days useage) abviously everyone will be different and vary, depending on what they use. but for winter months I,m assuming the figures for most would be well above 30kwh for (last 30 days ish) at least maybe, unless I,m wrong

We also have 4 storage heaters, though two are on very low. 30+kWh/day is about right for us at the moment. So yeah, that'll be it.

    With electric heating yes.

We average about 9 per day. We live in a detached 3 bedroomed bungalow with cavity wall insulation, double glazing and loft insulation. We have oil central heating and cook with electric. We are at home 24/7 as we are retired. We have several laptops, one of which is on 24/7 for recording the weather. We also have an American style fridge freezer and a small chest freezer.
