Bloomin Royal Mail and neighbours.

Options
Lying in my bed, awake since 8:0am, I hear a car engine outside my house. Nothing unusual as it will be my neighbour taking his kids to school at 8:45am then going to his work until 5:00pm.

Next I hear something being put through the letter box.

Probably he is putting his Christmas card through it.

But no!

I decide to get up and when I get downstairs I see through my window, as I open the curtains, a red Royal Mail van drive away.

And then my neighbour, noticing me and giving me a wave as he drove away.

And the card through the letterbox?

From Royal Mail saying that a parcel has been left with my neighbour, who has?

Just taken his kids to school at 8:45am then gone to his work until 5:00pm.

ARGHHHH!

The postie had never even knocked on the door or rang the doorbell but instead had handed the parcel to my neighbour who happened to be there putting his kids in the car for school.

And what did the neighbour do?

put the parcel in his house and as he drove away noticed me at the window, gave a wave and kept on going.

Now I have to wait until 5:00pm to see what I got.

This should help in the future:

    How?

I was moaning about the postie not even knocking on my door and the neighbour going to work knowing that he wouldn't be back till 5 yet seeing that I was up and looking out my window.

It would have taken him less than a minute at least to go and get my parcel.

Were your curtains drawn? Perhaps postie decided not to disturb you as your neighbour was out front, he was probably trying to be considerate.

It will help because if you have the required sticker on or near to your postbox, the postie won't leave parcels with your neighbours so the problem you experienced should happen again.

That's what you get for trying to help!

If I was rushing out to school/work and the postie handed me a parcel for a neighbour I would take it in even though it may mean unlocking my door and going back inside even if I was already in in a hurry.

However if the neighbour then expected me to stop the car again, get out, unlock my front door, get the parcel and wait for them to come downstairs to take it from me you can be dammed sure that next time the postie wants me to take in a parcel when Im leaving the house it wont be happening.

Talk about taking people for granted. You seriously expected the neighbour to stop and get it for you.

    That's gratitude for you!

its typical these days. They have a lot of deliveries to make. They assume nobody is going to answer the door at this early so they just prewrite the cards and just post the card through the letterbox.

It happened laster year to me around that time, except they dropped the cards to collect from the local delivery office. Went to collect and explain the situ the guy at the counter was annoyed and asked me to complain to HO. But he was only angry because it's more work for him to do. I couldnt be bothered delivery office is 2 minutes away from my house. I told the guy at the delivery office that it's only one package and it's not worth my time complaining about and his jaw just dropped.

Typical public sector workers. Hopefully now that RM has been privatised they'll break up the unions and fire these lazy sods.

I would much rather have a card saying neighbour has parcel, then have a card telling me its been taken back to depot (from where it never actually left) as has happened to me in the past. ;)

Why not just leave a note asking the post deliverer to leave it in a safe place.

I laminated a special note, complete with map, showing couriers where to leave parcels if I am not in. Then when I am expecting any, I leave it on the door.

Only City Link ignored it, everyone else leaves parcels. But then I am lucky in the way my house is laid out so there is an accessible outhouse for them to leave stuff in.

I would be worried about leaving a note on the door - advertises to anyone passing that you are out.

Our local postie is great - he knows who to leave packages with in our small street and we are all happy to accept deliveries for neighbours.
