Ethical (pays UK tax) mobile operator?

I'm tired of hearing about Vodafone not paying UK tax.

So I'm looking for ANY operator who does... if such a thing exists. Or at least, to find the "least worst offender".

Any ideas? Thanks

Vodafone paid no corporation tax in that year because they offset their capital expenditure against it-just as every other UK registered company is allowed to do, and does (though not always with a resultant zero tax bill). If HMRC are satisfied that the expenditure claimed is accountable, what is the issue?
Vodafone don't draft the tax regulations. If you don't like them, you need to change the government, not the phone provider.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Recent accounts show that O2 has paid the most in tax of the four networks in Britain although it was only a fraction of what they paid to the Spanish tax authorities.
They are also the least complained about according to Ofcom.

Which proves only that tax payment can not be used as a benchmark. Nor number of complaints.

But at the end it's each user choice - no one can tell you "no, you can't choose the most overpriced and most overcrowded UK network, with poor and rude customer service"
  • Well the OP asked which was the least worst offender, re the aggressive tax avoidance schemes being used nowadays.

That's why I said O2 as the position is born out by facts available in the financial media.
As regards O2, personally I have found that their network is reliable, and I have not encountered any rude staff.
I have used O2 and MVNO Tesco for the last 14 years. I've tried others in a spare phone for comparison but always found that calls, texts and the occasional internet connection on 2G (yes 2G) are reliable and robust through the O2 network.
