Excellent news be ready for a letter through the door saying Bar wont allow switch blah blah blah. Get your wages paid in and get a list of DD. That way you can give them new details and then you know OD wont get transferred.

Just called Santander in abit of a panic. It looks like the switch of DD's has already started. I had abit of a panic because the way the lady spoke was as if S#ntander was moving my OD over as well . I explained that I definitely didn't want an OD them. She said that they then wouldn't be able to close the B#rclays account and I would have to sort that out myself once the OD was settled. Perfect.
Don't overly mind if B#rclays try to put a stop to it really. The switching service is a little scary as I feel I have no control and with my overly tight budget, I can quite see bills getting bounced this month, but I will hold my breath and get it sorted.
Aaaaah so scary. I am off to try out to work out how it will go on my spreadsheet. xx0 -
Just had a play with my spreadsheet, making the 21st as the cut off date with B#rclays.
As long as I make sure Dh's next wages are paid into the S#ntander account then we will be fine. Hopefully I will get the new card sometime this week and we can give them the details.
I zero'd my spreadsheet from the 21st and added in a payment per month to B#rclays to start paying off the OD. It looks Soooooo weird to be working with real money and not a negative all the time. Think this is going to give me the big boost I need to beat this debt.
It always feels so fruitless when you are constantly working around a -£2500 figure. Makes you feel like it is total insurmountable.
Thanks for all your help everyone, I am convinced I wouldn't have the guts to do half of this without you all. xxxx0 -
This place is great for enthusiasm isn't it, really keeps you on track :T
Can you not call all the companies up with the DD's and just explain you're in the middle of switching banks and that things may bounce this month whilst you're getting all the wages put in there? Perhaps if they are forewarned they may waiver charges or even put a hold on the DD coming out just yet (I know v1rgin and gas/elec companies have done this for me previously)
How lovely that your Spreadsheet is now in BLACK rather than RED though and it won't be long with your drive before all your accounts are paid :TMortgage Overpayments 2024/25 - September-December, £152.46. Thanks DFW321,
I just have to stick with it though. I am often very enthusiastic and then either get bored or a setback and I give up.
I have to grow up and keep going, this isn't going to go away overnight. I think I always expect instant miracles.
Unfortunately a lot of my debts are quite large, over £3000 each, so it takes a long time to wipe them off.
It seems so much easier to see what money I ACTUALLY have with my spreadsheet in the Black. xxxxx:T0 -
Well done Steph. I am sure the black numbers will make a difference. I am in a similar position and also find the overdraft hard to budget - we have essentially shifted our spending to a new account. My partner's income still goes into the overdrawn account and fixed payments go out of there. But my income and any extras go into the "clean" account and we use that for food, fuel etc. It is so much easier to budget in positive numbers - even if they are small!
The old account just ticks over. We have to keep paying her salary into it as they would close the OD without it and we couldn't pay it back at the moment (it is only £20 a month though for £5500 so a good deal).
Good luck in clearing yours.0 -

Hi Mizmir,
What you do sounds like a good idea as well. I can't afford to pay back the OD straight away, and I am hoping that they will just need abit of negotiating and then they will accept a payment a month. I can't do much more than that.
Fingers crossed they don't get nasty and start threatening immediate final payment otherwise court. Eeeek0 -
Keeping everything crossed. I hope that you can get this to work for you, it will remove so much of the strain and enable you to really kick arris with your debt.:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
