This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Good morning everyone :)

Well it's here at last, my final day in my current job! Am not sure how I feel, didn't sleep, stomach is turning and emotions changing more frequently than when I was pregnant :rotfl:

I just want it to be over so will report back later when it's all done.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need them or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

• Morning all
TTFM, hope it goes ok.
Two more days here 'til I break up, today I will be chopping up 500 sheets of paper with a damaged guillotine & crawling on the floor sticking labels on shelves.
Time I made a cuppa & fed the fish.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
• well done for hanging on there ttftm, after today you can relax and face almost anything :):)
and Good Morning to you all. Vey black and wet and windy at the moment outside ,not a nice day at all.
Today is my beautuful youngest DD Tessa's birthday bless her.I am so proud of her as she works so hard for her brood of children and rarely gets to treat herself to anything nice. She is one of life's happy folk who just gets on with what she has and never complains. She has a riotous house full of fun and laughter from her tribe of children (she has 5) although the eldest now has left home, the remaining four boys are a credit to her.All noisy lads who eat for England, but adore their Mum
She works, as does her husband fulltime, and the house is at times quite battered about with four boys and two dogs and assorted pets and often other peoples offspring ,but nothing seems to faze her and she is the kindest person I know.
She will give her last penny away if needed, and often doesn't have many pennies at all,but is always looking to help those less fortunate than herself.A really nice lass that I am proud to call mine ,I know she reads this at times so if your seeing this my love ,thank for being the smashing person you are and I hope you enjoy your birthday :):):)
I have a bit of running around to do today picking up various things for the charity shop from some friends and delivering them for them as they can't get out.We have a charity near to me called the Demelza House which is a children's hospice run virtually on donations ,so I do the odd day picking up bits for the shop from various people I know and delivering them.Every little helps as they say :)
Then this afternoon I have to also pick a little something up for DD for tonight(can't say what as its a suprise for her :))
I hope you all are safe after the storms and gales yesterday, its not cold today just wet and windy(a bit like my new neighbours baby:):))who I can here yelling for her bottle at the moment ,my she's got a strong pair of lungs :):)
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing

Hello Yvieblue :hello:

Before he went to work yesterday, mr tru managed to turn the screw on the boiler a tiny bit. I told him about blu tac, rubber bands and varieties of saws :D I kept out of the way so I have no idea what he used. Turns out the washer has worn away and someone (not naming names but it was mr tru, lol) has been turning the screw too tight in the past when the pressure has needed adjusting. I'd like to go to the DIY shop tomorrow, buy new bits and get it sorted properly. But I know what'll happen, he'll wait til it goes again (it'll be first thing in the morning on a frosty day when we all need showers and the bathroom is like a freezer) then swear a lot :rotfl:

Apart from buying fruit and veg, I have nothing to do until Christmas Eve :j Mr tru bought the turkey and gammon yesterday, I'll play freezer tetris to fit them in. I've stuck crocheted stars around the kitchen :D And it looks like I'm going to manage to finish my wreath, I couldn't get it right with just crochet so I've cheated and used some small decorations. I'll post a pic when I've sewn it all together.

TTFTM good luck today, it will soon be over x
Hester Not long now and dont scrap those knees today x
Jackie0 You have a DD that does you credit. (Happy Birthday Jackie0 DD ) x

Well after last nights high winds i was suprised to find none of the trees or fence panels had blown down. Pleased cause it means i wont need to get the saw or hammer out just yet.

Childrens carol concert last night was brilliant. Love hearing the little ones sing it makes it feel like Xmas.
Xmas dinner yesterday was a let down to say the least. Lots of complaints from the children so will have to see what the Head does next year as he was none to pleased.

Today i am off to meet an old friend for coffee and a catch up inbetween shifts.

Dinner tonight will be something quick and easy ( no idea what yet).

Right better get a move on as 250 chairs wont put themselves away lol

Hugs to all in need x
Bright Blessings xx

Morning All

A bit rough weatherwise last night but seems calmer today although still windy and probably wet (not looked yet). Had a fairly good nights sleep but still woke up early - trying to crack that 6am barrier!

Happy Birthday JackieO's Tessa, hope she has a lovely day.
TTFTM - Deep breath for today, hope you manage to survive in one piece, just think of the better times ahead.
tru - your carols are a joy in the morning. Like your way of not naming names!!
HH - Hang in there, just 2 days left.

I too have 2 days left this term - we have a panto in school today, hope it's better than last years as they were a bit lame and the children didn't laugh very much (a harsh audience in Glasgow!!). SMT providing a christmas lunch in the staff room today, it was fantastic last year so hoping it's the same again. Don't need to take a packed lunch. Hospice christmas party later so that will be a busy shift.

The ariel chap arrived yesterday so we now have tv - I was asking him for advice on buying a freeview box and he informed me that there was freeview in the tv we have (doh!!). That saved me a few £s anyway.

Right, better get a shift on, hugs to all feeling under the weather. Take care. XX

Yesterday DH and I got on top of most our chores, I even did all my wrapping on Tuesday, we're hoping that by then End of Saturday everything will be done and clean and we'll get 2 weeks of rest :)

Today we're taking the girls to the library for singing, after we're doing the food shopping (last before Christmas!) DH is going to clean my kitchen while I wrap DD1 birthday gifts (not her birthday until next month but I want to get it out of the way, and DH wants me out of the way). This afternoon we're relaxing, and dinner is LO butternut squash soup and rolls, so nothing to do but reheat :)

I am looking forward to Saturday afternoon when everything will be done, we're both shattered, but it's worth it :)

I just bought DH a last minute gift (something I never do), it's a TV series we both like and just started watching, only the repeats stopped after a week... We found it was something which made us both stop and just spend time together for an hour even on the busiest of days. So I just hope it'll be delivered on time :)

I hope everyone has a great day...

I have to go stop DS and DD1 from screaming at each other! Honestly at 11 and 1 you'd be surprised at how well they argue!!!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Morning all,
Last night we had such a downpour of hailstones they came down the inglenook and were bouncing onto the carpet, the wind was so bad I thought it was thunder. DD2 phoned at 9.30 pm to say she had water getting in through her roof, so I have to find a roofer today as I expect the wind has caused some tiles to move. The belt on her TD has snapped so I'll collect her washing and bung it in our TD later.

I'll be doing the school runs today as DGD3 is a bit poorly, I picked DGD2 up y/,the little ones were late getting out due to a Pantomime which meant I was stood in the wind and rain for 20mns. Got home soaked.

Plans today, make some mince pies and a lamb shank casserole. Clean the fridge and organise the freezers. Didn't get the ironing done y/day so that's still on the never ending list of things to do.

Hope everyone has a good day,
NPM. Hope the appointment goes well. x

Morning everyone

Happy Birthday to JackieO's DD, hope you have a great day x

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still very dark here, but looks wet underfoot again and blustery too.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was roast chicken pieces, new potatoes, carrots, broccolli, peas and gravy. Tonight I'm not sure but will organise something later.

Fridge freezer was delivered at 2.45pm - I'd booked the 12pm-5pm slot and then yesterday morning I'd received a telephone message to say it would be delivered between 3-4pm. Absolutely thrilled with it - it's a bit bigger than the other one, has a bigger fridge part so am really pleased with it. Will definitely use the company again if needed. Ordered and paid for the appliance on line Tuesday morning - by Wednesday 3pm it's been delivered and is standing in situ ready to be turned on - and the delivery guys were great, they took the old one away and were really pleasant and helpful! Relieved that I'm sorted before xmas. Price wise they were good aswell.

Work yesterday was steady - just a constant stream of customers - was busier than it has been - so morning passed quite quickly.

Now on days off, so have all the normal chores to do - I also need to get the wrapping done - I've not wrapped anything as yet! I couldn't sleep very well last night so gave up and came downstairs at 12.45am, made a hot drink - and iced my Xmas cake - so at least that's another job done! Will endeavour today to do washing, drying and ironing, housework and some general tidying. Have written a shopping list for tomorrow - no doubt there will be more things to add at some point. New fridge has 2 special drawers in the bottom of it 1 for fruit and vegetables and the other for fresh meat/fish - really like this idea so if any juices drips/spills out of the fresh meat/fish packaging it's contained and you can just lift the drawer out wash it and put it back without worrying if it's contaminated anything else. Will go over to MIL's later (freezer needs to be switched on for 24 hours before putting the frozen stuff back in.)

Keep safe and well x

Morning everybody,

Hope it goes well today TTFTM
Yvieblue -welcome your days sound very much like mine apart from my sons are older :)

Mild today and the wind's gone.I'm hoping for a quiet day in to start wrapping pressies today, hardly done any yet & DGD is coming later so need to hide the evidence :D.Last week she spotted a big bag in our bedroom and shouted out' presents' Luckily it was her dads present (clothes) so I said it was dirty washing, blimey she's only 2! I also want to check thru' my online order due tomorrow and make adjustments. I have to call at the post office for more stamps to post a cheque off to one of DH subcontractors.

I might try and make a cake as DS2s lot are coming for tea so I'll get a cuddle with the baby.He was no trouble when I minded him on Tuesday :T.Frozen fish and hm wedges for tea but I'll have to check I have enough spuds first otherwise chips.

Didnt post yesterday,I started to and lost it.Don't know what it is with this current laptop but one wrong movement and it deletes everything I've typed . I went out for a pub lunch with my friend and we swapped pressies.I've cut right back on adult presents but kept this one as she's my oldest friend-we were at primary & secondary school together and our friendship survived 30 years of her living in EastYorkshire till they moved back home to Lancashire last year :) We usually make up a hamper type bag for each other so it's not wasteful either ;)

Hope DD has a lovely birthday JackieO,and everyone else has a good day.Off to take Lylapup out shortly (Lame Wolf you'll be glad to know her tum seems better today,DH said she sat waiting for her breakfast earlier :))
xx
