No I did not. The fireplace was a plug in one and only there I suspect to cover the hole. The la told me on the day I got the keys she was sorry that it was broken and to just throw it out
Ah, fair enough, I thought it was an actual fireplace (and it has been known for tenants to rip out whole fireplaces without permission which is why I asked).
What made you think you mightn't get your deposit back? It's a pity you withheld the last month's rent and authorised the deposit release as payment as you could have used the deposit protection scheme to dispute the charges the LA is now levying for cleaning rather than wait to see whether they decide to pursue you legally for it.0
