Best time to buy TV?

Hello Money Savers,
I want to buy a 47-50' plasma TV but not sure if I should wait for the boxing day sale to begin or just go ahead and do it now. I am tight for cash so would love to save as much as I can. If the post Christmas sales really bring the pricees down, I will wait. However, I am concerned if that will mean no stock availability and I won't have the TV that I like. Any advise from past sale observers if the prices of TVs will really fall after Christmas?

This forum is divided in to separate "Boards". You have posted your question in The Credit Cards Board. You would probably get a better response if you asked in The Digital TV Board. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Technology never really goes on sale but prices always fall due to new models etc. Older models are reduced in price to reflect this and go under the disguise of a boxing day sale.
It is never a true sale how ever because the price never goes back up, but yes you will get an older but certainly not bad model slightly cheaper if you wait till January.0 -
I don't think you will get a great bargain in the sales.
I got my son a 42" LED tv from Argos for £299.00. We also got a £10.00 gift card because it was over £100.00
We purchased a 51" Plasma from Very catalogue for £400.00 because you get so much off when you open a credit account but this MUST be paid off within the one year interest free period or it will cost a fortune!
Hope this helps x0 -
Is it John Lewis never knowingly undersold? With the 2 year guarantee?
The yellow pages & the phone should chisel the price down without you leaving the house & you can then collect or have it delivered.

Best time to buy is when new models are being released and shops want to clear their stock room for the new TVs. Yes you end up with a slightly out of date TV but to be honest it's only likely to be last years model which will still have loads of bells and whistles.
I got a 46" plasma Panasonic from Richer sounds a couple of years ago just before the new range came out, I got a very good deal and a free blu-ray player thrown in.
Try posting on AV Forums if you want any advice or guidance on choosing a TV. I am sure someone on there will also be able to advise when the various manufacturers are releasing their new models and where the best deals can be found.

B&M have 50" Panasonic plasmas in stock. I didn't note the price, as I'm not interested in buying.0

Panasonic have announced their withdrawal from the plasma TV market: they'll no longer be selling them after 31/3/14. So at some point they'll need to clear the last stock. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Good advice here
New TV ranges generally land in store between March and May depending on how quickly retailers phase the new models in, limited distribution higher end models generally later in the year0
