Switched BB provider to Plusnet..now what

I signed up last night to Plusnet from BT and got an email this morning to say it's being processed with a go live on the 25th Dec!

As I'm also taking out line rental with them, will my telephone number port across too?

Thanks

The move of line rental to them won't change your number (it would had you been on cable as that would mean a new line).

I guess you could even get the date as you are already with a BTw based ISP so the BB move is a keyboard only job requiring no physical wiring change and is probably done offshore.

Your number will remain the same unless you requested that it be changed.

I went from O2 DSL BB to Plustnet fibre. And BT phone to Plusnet phone.

The Fibre got fitted and went live 2 weeks after the initial call and the phone switched approx 2 weeks after that.

I supplied the MAC code for the broadband but BT switched without one.

I just got a letter from BT saying sorry to hear im leaving. And one on the day it actually changed over saying contact them to see if they can entice me to stay.

  • Hi, I've just done something very similar to you.
I was with BE(O2) for my broadband and with BT for my phone.
I've just signed with plusnet for their £1.99 Unlimited 16Mb deal and £14.50 line rental.

The MAC code is just for the broadband. I'm currently waiting for mine, hopefully should get it in a day or 2.

Good luck with it let us know if it's any good.

They said they would email mine. But they didnt. They text it to the phone we used for the discounts.

But we had given that to my FIL for emergencies.

Luckily i checked it whilst visiting.

BB switched over a day early but since then it's been fine. Still waiting for phone to be switched over on the 10th

Mines switched now, my phone line switches on the 17th.
Do you have to contact BT at all, to cancel? or is it automatic

I had BB with O2 and phone with BT. I got the MAC from O2 and didnt contact BT at all.
Phone line swapped about 2 weeks after the BB went live. I got 2 letters from BT one saying sorry your leaving.
Then on the day it swapped over another letter saying contact them to see if they can convince me to stay. (bit late as it had already swapped over).

  • Sounds fairly automatic then, good. Glad to stop paying BT, they've had enough money off me over the years.

Do BT ask for the router back? I had an email from them saying to pop the router in the bag that was sent out - but I never received a bag. Then I noticed that they've still got me down at my old address of 2 years ago!? Even though I ported my old number to my new address all through BT at the time?
