Reeds Rains are a shambles

Hello we live in a 1 bedroom flat in a complex. On Friday the front door handle in the flat came off so I send an email to my local reeds rains office reporting the problem. You could still attach the handle and open the door. The local office then forward the email to maintenance around 2pm. The maintenance team email me at 5:20pm saying they have informed the lanlord and if I can get back to them before 5:30pm, because they close at 5:30pm so they give me 10 mins after the email to get back to them. The lanlord should have come to fix it as soon as he was informed as he was breaking health and safety laws.
Now Saturday comes I was working all day my girlfriend walks out of the flat to collect a parcel and the door closes on her. She is not locked out, because the handle has broken from the inside she could not get in. All she had on was her dressing gown no money no phone nothing. She rings my work from the neighbour at 12:30pm so I go to the flat to see what has happened. The keys won't work, it won't open because the handle has broken. 2pm I go to the local reeds rains office to seek assistance, the woman says I will contact the lanlord see what he says the ring you back. I get this phone call from this woman to say the lanlord won't pay for a locksmith and it's up to me to find a locksmith and pay for one. This woman from the office gave me no phone numbers she said I had to find a locksmith. When I said why we have to pay she said because we locked ourselves out of the flat we have to pay someone should have stayed in the flat until someone came but no-one did come.
At 6:30pm the locksmith came and took 2 mins to get in and secured the outside handle. he said the handles need replacing and we could of been locked out from the inside. He also said the handles have been fitted incorrectly. They charged us £150. The lanlord said he will not pay so unless we paid this fee we would of been homeless for the night.
Today the lanlord has fixed the handles only because I said you are breaking health and safety laws. Reeds rains said the lanlord is not responsible for this payment because he said he would not pay on saturday. On monday I was on the phone all day to the local office and maintenance they kept saying phone the other place.
Where do I stand on this? Everyone I've told about this incident says this is very unfair. When I reported the incident the lanlord should of come straight away incase of a fire. I had to pay £150 to get in the flat or sleep homeless when the lanlord should of fixed the handles. Can I get my money back. Reeds rains is taking the side of the lanlord
regards

I'm not being funny but how on earth does this make Reeds Rains 'a shambles'??
At the end of the day, you contacted Reeds Rains and they informed the landlord right away. That's their duty fulfilled. It's up to the landlord to carry out any repairs, not Reeds Rains.
Unfortunately, there's no proof that the handles are what caused the door to lock so I think you're out of luck trying to get the landlord to cough up.0 -
I know am going to burn in hell for this, but what is a lanlord?0

Door handles don't just "come off". Did you notice the handle becoming loose over time and did you do anything to mitigate the problem (either fixing it yourselves or at least notifying the LA/LL)? If you didn't it could be argued that you and your OH didn't act in a tenant-like manner when you allowed the problem to get to this stage.0
