Quick question on network "welcome texts" abroad

I'm not sure about this.
You know those 'welcoming texts' we get when we turn our phone abroad for the first time, such as "Welcome to T-Mobile Germany, if you need any help please dial xxxx" and so on?
Are these paid? Do they count as a received text?
And if yes, is there any way to say we don't want to get them??
It's really annoying - and expensive - especially if you turn off your phone at night...

Ok, no need for your help anymore.
I'd written to the help service some time ago and got their reply that receiving texts abroad is free anyway.

Receiving texts abroad should always be free.. it's not as if you have any say in accepting the text, is it?
Premium and reverse-charge texts are a different story, but you're charged for those on your home network too...0 -
Just spoken to someone who knows about these things - you are never charged and should never be charged for receiving any text messages abroad - even in areas that have astronomically high roaming charges for voice/data. You are also not charged for setup texts, such as those for WAP/GPRS services, or status texts such as enable/disable voicemail or balance check. However in the case of a balance check you would be charged for the text sent to check the balance, although many providers allow this free.
