Dog bed

Hey all

Looking for a durable but comfy dog bed... for my monster !! ( GSD)

Atm he sleeps on a spare double mattress on the room floor ( loves his luxury) but we are having a clear out and it needs to go as is taking up too much room - it was never intended for him but he claimed it!!

I feel guilty that I am taking it away... no idea why as I always wake up in the morning with him in my bed anyways!!

Budget... i'm not sure but nothing tooo expensive.

Cot mattresses are a good side for GSDs - I bought one on eBay which fits perfectly into the dog bed cover I had (the filling fell apart after one too many washes) when I trimmed the edge down. I see tons of them offered free on Freecycle too

my staffy 'appropriated' DDs bean bag - and was HER favourite dog bed - unfortunately those polystyrene balls retain dog sick fumes! the cover is washable - the little balls aren't! so that got chucked and she took one side of the settee instead!
I could have bought her a doggy four poster - but, she had definite ideas on HER bed!

I would thoroughly recommend Tuffies. http://www.tuffies.co.uk/

We went through a lot of beds with our giant breed boy and this has lasted ten times longer than any other and is still going strong. I would really recommend getting a 'fluffie' cover and they're a bit 'crunchy' feeling without. They seem expensive but are very good quality and extremely durable from our experience :)

Logan would definately rip the beanbag and make it 'snow'

Will have a look at cot mattressess... baby on the way so I need one anyways so if we get a good deal I will buy 2 :) failing that dog can get a used one.

I don't think he would like those big plastic beds as he likes to lie flat out and stretch
  • Pets at home will have a sale after xmas, they always do and pet beds are about half price

Saw this on another thread but might not be big enough. Maybe put 2 of these together? Cot mattress is definitely recommended - we had deep ones and our old dog loved them.

I just use a duvet off freecycle.
  • I also have a GSD, she will be 9 next year and noticed she is starting to get stiffness in her back legs (like GSD suffer from with their hips), I was recommended to get the Flectabed, it is thermal, developed by NASA?! It keeps her warm and has definitely helped her hips. You can get it anywhere and the cover and inside is washable. Here is some info: Flectabed Q is a unique thermal bedding for cats and dogs using technology developed by NASA. The unique properties of Flectabed Q reflects heat loss keeping your pet warm and comfortable.

Single duvet in a cover folded in half - cheap option.

    Zara also has this one:

The largest size, her head in on the edge but normally cats beat her to this bed anyway and she likes cold bare floor - go figure sighhhh

One minus - someone thought beige (almost white actaually) inside for the bed would work..

I put a blanket on it, wrap the whole bed in a blanket

I folded up an old memory foam matreess topper and my lurcher loves it. We call it the crowbar bed as you need a crowbar to get him off it. Use an old duvet cover and waterproof cover on top of the memory foam. You can buy dog bed sized memory foam from Amazon

It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
