Aww gib, I find moneywise.co.uk quite a good site to look at if you're ever interested.

I had no idea you worked there lilt. I was really impressed with the girl I spoke to on the phone, she was so helpful and set up my DD despite me sounding like a moron (I wasn't feeling great).

I do feel sorry for people who have to sell like that. It genuinely fills me with dread just thinking about it. I have to try to sell occasionally, I fail. At least you ran away from that job fairly sharpish!

I'm invested with Vanguard Lifestrategy 60%, platform is HL NISA. Started with knowing that I wanted that fund (middling risk, strong historic performance, brilliant diversification and super low fees) over the alternatives as my beginner fund. Once this pot has hit around £10k, I'm thinking I can afford to look at more risky or specific funds. But that's a long way off. Hell, I might not ever feel confident enough to get away from that. I like to think that in the future, I can be brave. :o

Buying a house when you're 19 is amazing! I was in college then uni at 19, being a total !!!!!!. I wish I'd worked through college.. Anyway, sidetracked- you shouldn't invest if you feel that you can't lose it. I personally spent 5 months pretending the money wasn't there before I could bare to invest. With the index tracker, you can drip £50 in each month. With HL you don't get the trade charges like you do with others (just with some funds).

It's incredible to hear about your client though, not sure that'd happen to me. :o

Joined the library!:j Apparently I joined at age 7 and never used it. I have corrected this now with a book about purchasing a house. It's really interesting!

Also found some interesting PDFs about investing, haven't read them yet but looking forward to them.

    Started using my CC!

    Time for bed me thinks.

Been naughty today! Bought myself four new dvds at £1.50 each. One of them is a very cheesy kiddies film. Such cheese. much wow

Set up an appointment with an IFA, hope that it is useful. I'm hoping to set up a pension, I might have mentioned.

Thinking about rewriting my CV, it's obviously not good enough. I would be getting more interest otherwise.

I was woken up with genuine and true screams of absolute terror. There was a massive spider. It was giant. >.< (the screams weren't mine)

    Sleepy times now.

You guys wouldn't believe the phonecall I had (sorry for the long post). Copied from my facebook.

Okay, so when sales calls go wrong, they properly go wrong.

The phone goes and I pick it up (shocking): Hello
"James": Hello daughter of Mrs [name], is [dad] [dead since 2012] or Mrs [name] there?
Me: What is the call regarding... Let me see if she's available
Me: I'm sorry she's not available
"James": Are you telling fibs, you know I don't mind!
Me annoyed: How old do you think I am?
"James" noticably panicking: How old are you?
Me: Shockingly, 24. [rant rant rant on both ends] Tell your supervisor about this and he'll tell you to not be a patronising !!!!!!!
    Hang up
Two minutes later, the phone goes:
"James": Hello is this daughter of Mrs [name]?
    Me: Yes
"James": I just wanted to apologise to you. You know you sound very beautiful daughter of Mrs [name]
Me: Oh James that isn't going to help, transfer me to your supervisor please.
"James": But you do sound beautiful!
    Hangs up on me.
Two minutes later, the phone goes again.
"Epic-James": Hello, this is Epic I'm James' supervisor. I'm calling to apologise for the survive you got. I just want you to know that he is a good guy, he's actually Church of England!
Me: You're actually just James aren't you.
"Epic-James": No no, my name is Epic. You know he's just a 24 year old, has his own place in [location] with six skylights.
    Me: Am I being recorded?
"Epic-James": Yes, for our quality control. You know James is a very nice lad you know. You know you sound beautiful. Tell me, did you go to public school?
Me: No, why are you asking James?
"Epic-James": You know I went to private for 5 years! Can you believe that? I'm sure that you would like James really.
Me: What do you want James?
"Epic-James": [sales pitch about solar panels] So are you interested?
    Me: No James.
"Epic-James: Well let me tell you something. I LOVE you. That's free information for you. I love you. Tell me are you as beautiful as you sound?
Me: If I look like I sound, I look like a nine year old.
    "Epic-James": But are you beautiful?
    Me [finding this creepy]: No.
"Epic-James": Oh that can't be true! I bet you're smart.
    Me: That I am James.
"Epic-James": Well I have to end this call now. I love you.

TLDR: No more answering the phone for me.
  • Hi

Just read through your diary and really enjoyed it - thank you.

I, too, have fibromyalgia so I share your pain.

My advice is to keep going back to your doctors until you find one who will listen to you. I am really lucky that I have a choice of three doctors who have listened and believed my symptoms and the way I describe them.

You mentioned at the beginning of the year you had a diary. Why don't you use it to record your symptoms, weather, stresses, medications (what, when taken, effectiveness etc) successes and things to avoid again. I have found that I can see more of a pattern to my illness so that I can build in breaks, exercise or nothing so I can cope with the busy days. I have also found by trial and error, the best time to take my pills so that I can function as well as being relatively comfortable.

I have just finished a "Living well with Pain" course which was very helpful and it was great to talk to others who have chronic pain - but that isn't all we talked about! The most important thing I learnt was, just because it hurts, it doesn't mean it is doing me harm - us fibro-ites aren't wired like everyone else.

You really do manage to do such a lot so I am definitely in awe. On my worst days, I use my phone to give me 15 minute bursts of doing a task and then rewarding myself. My fibro fog is quite bad at the moment so I have lots of prompts, lists and other aides to help me remember how to help myself.

Sorry to have rambled on, I'll blame the fibro fog again.

    Take care

  • Lmao Epic-James... Definitely not Epic. He sounds.... fun? Are you that person who gets the weirdo's on the bus? The drunk guy who insists he knows you from a party in 1987 etc.? Yes? Me too...

Eeeeeeeeeeh to the IFA. I very hope it is useful. But please do not say yes to anything :D and please know that if he doesn't tell you his fees upfront, and how he earns his money, then he is not compliant with the FCA and RDR. Having been swindled by one, then worked for another, and seen how the industry is full of con-artists or coasters who just advise based on how much it actually earns them, I am wary...

I should go to sleep also; though I am unlikely to be woken by spider screams as in this house we basically co-exist peacefully unless they are BEASTY and then they leave via the window. I am struggling with my 'winter Lupus' as mum calls it. My sister has fibro, my mama had Lupus, and I get a lot of the symptoms around this time of year until April. I sympathise with anyone in that situation. I can't sleep due to ridiculous pains in my arms at the minute. Every year... :(

Pauline, thank you so much for your post. It's really moving to hear how someone else deals with these things.

I also have lists, lists everywhere! I have one for home (daily), a couple at work (relating to the different roles I have), a monthly one which is on my whiteboard (get one, they're brilliant!) and then my diary that covers the things I need to do in a week/appointments for each day. Before working on my current system, I would forget everything, not complete things on time and double or triple book myself.

In terms of how much I do, I can only do them because I live with mum. I'm pretty nervous how I will cope with living independently as in Uni I was lucky that the people who I lived with almost always wanted to look after me when I couldn't.:o

Go to the doctor Liltikins! That sounds horrible though, is it the cold that causes the pains or heating do you think? I get affected badly by air-con, I think it's because it's a constant cold.

I have no intention of saying yes to anything in that meetings, I'm going to research what he suggests and look up how his fees match up. To be fair to him, he did say that I shouldn't need a personal pension as there should be autoenrolment, it wasn't until I told him how small my company was when he started to tell me a bit more about how the meeting would work. So I think he seems pretty good at the moment. How come you work for an IFA if you were swindled by one? I might have been discouraged.

I have my next exam on tuesday! Fingers crossed it will go well. Today I have made two realisations, when closing off the books I'm removing the balance for the new year and when adjusting the cash book, I'm looking at it from the cash point of view! I kept debiting an expense to the cashbook. This close to the exam, I feel like an idiot. :rotfl:

Been taking it very easy on myself as I've been invited to London this evening. Hoping I won't keel over as I'm still not great..

Also I overspent on my outing yesterday by about £10, a friend lost her card. But I should have ordered something cheaper to compensate for this. Her card has both been cancelled and found by the way. In that order :rotfl:
  • Good evening everyone!

Hope you're having a great sunday night!

I have had a horribly spendy week, including 3 consecutive days of eating in restaurants :o I must have gained weight as well as I've also had an incredible case of the munchies all week!

I passed my exam! I've now actually done the studying part of the next module (excel) which was really easy as I've already completed a course in it. I'll see if I can book my test tomorrow.

New CV has been written, I think it's a great improvement on my old one so I shall see if it gets me any more attention. I sent out seven CVs yesterday.

Had the initial meeting with the IFA and it seems reasonable with the costs, the blokey seems sensible and he seems to be flexible. So I'm hoping this is a good thing but who knows, might be making a huge mistake!

Been thinking about financial abuse recently- http://www.moneywise.co.uk/cut-your-costs/family-life/financial-abuse-how-to-protect-yourself I think that there is a over concentration on female victims. I'm also wondering where the line between control over excessive spendy partner and abuse comes. The case in the link is obvious but where is the line?
  • Hey KP,

Just catching up. Congratulations on the exam!!!

Sounds like things are very much on track in your world, very impressed :)

Hope you get lots of responses from your CV - you should be getting your hand snapped off by them!
