Been in this situation with civil service and 2 year 'might be made redundant' scenario due to restructure. There are guides for cs pension schemes on line and these contain details of redundancy entitlement - worth checking as the various scheme differ considerably. The quotes usually take ages to come through and dont provide much background beyond the comp figure and preserved / payable pension . How its calculated will be in the revelant guide and might help you clarify in meantime.

If he is in classic and takes either vol redun or compulsory redun he would be offered either pension current value + pension lump sum cos he is over 50 and having to go, OR comp + preserved pension (lump sum and annual pension). If he is taking a VEDs it his option to go so wont get the early pension offer just the comp.. Might be better to take comp and preserve pension and lump sun til 60, that way you get both chunks but depends on your circs.

Message me if i can help at all.
