Cancelling an O2 contract

I'm about to enter the last month of my contract and called O2 to find out what I needed to do to cancel it and get my PAC code.

The girl I spoke to would not tell me anything other than to call up 30 days prior to the end of the contract and that they would deal with it then.

The thing is, I'm sure the last time I did this, I called up and they said they needed notice in writting with 30 days notice. Of course, if I wait until 30 days before the end of the contract, it's going to be difficult to give them that notice in writting the same day (i don't have a fax machine). They charged me for another month's line rental and it was a bit of a struggle to get a part refund on that payment.

Can I just write to them before hand specifying the date I'm giving notice from and that I want my PAC?

Thanks

The PAC will only be valid for 30 days anyway, so their giving it to you more than 30 days before your contract actually ends will not be if any use.

Phone again and ask the same question, and get the person's name and team number so that you can quote these details to a manager if you have problems following their instructions.

Are you a online user ?

if so call up and either put 30 days notice to shut off or ask for the pac, you can ask for it at anytime but while in the 12 or 18 month contract you will have to pay up till the end of the contract

offline customer can request pac or disx at anytime but again same rules apply.

The reason that you have to call ret to sort out a disx is that if you decide not to stay they have to set the inital disx on the account ( a dummy date is set and changes every so oftern ) my understanding of it is that it sets something off with the billing side and when they get your letter they compare to see if this inital date as been set and then update it with the correct 30 days notice - or it could have been a case it was the only way for them to figure out the agents save rate :s

If this hasn't been done then they will not set the disx on the account as to them no contact as been made and they have no idea if you truly want to disx the account.
