Acommodations 30mins between Glasgow and Edinburgh?

Hi Everyone, Dya here.
I live in Ireland at the moment and i just got hired by an English Airline which this means i will have to move in England in around march/april.
I will have to be located aprox 30mins from Glasgow Airport and Edinburgh Airport. Myself and my partner want to move in a small village and that is close to the city centres too.
I am not familiar with Glasgow nor Edinburgh.
We are looking for a cheap apartment/flat/house for our first few months there, im just out of college and quite tough with the financial part right now in a place ive never been before.
I would appreciate if anyone could give me some advices where i could settle, i want a quiet, friendly environment with good facilities too. a town or village would be ideal.
Many thanks.

Glasgow & Edinburgh are not in England. You will seriously offend many by saying they are.0

I consider myself duly offended.
You need to be within 30 mins of BOTH airports, but you want be close to both cities? That's a contradiction in terms.
The obvious place to be is somewhere along the M8 corridor, which would place you somewhere in the region of Livingston, maybe.
Have you looked at a map of the area, and considered the main routes to and from the airports? Edinburgh is to the West of the city, meaning you don't have to go through the city to reach it if you approach from the West. However, Glasgow's, if you approach it from the same, central area between the cities, requires an approach through the city, with all that implies for rush hours, etc.0 -
Closest you'll get to that is maybe around about Airdrie/Coatbridge area. Its about half an hour to each from there, depending on the traffic.
Not the nicest of places, but like everywhere you get good bits and bad bits. If it is village life you are after, Glenmavis in Airdrie might be what you are looking for. Chapelhall as well, which is nicer than Glenmavis, and really handy for the M8.
1 bed flats probably go for around 375-400 per month around there. Chapelhall is quite nice, there are a lot of new estates there as well if new build is what you like.0 -

What the "Buckfast Triangle"? :rotfl:
As for Chapelhall, I wouldn't......... really. I know a few people from there and all they say is "Thanks god I escaped!"0 -
Around Cumbernauld might be an idea?
Would suggest a weekend trip to Scotland to get more of an idea - if you think it Glasgow/Edinburgh is in England then you probably need to visit before deciding, particularly if it is a village you want to live n.0 -
Bear in mind that travel from Glasgow to Edinburgh (and vice versa) involves using Scotland's busiest motorway, so journeys can be VERY congested during rush hour.
If you need to get to either of them from one place in 30 minutes, it won't be happening between 7-9 or 4-6 ish!0 -
Id also say Cumbernauld, but having worked there for a long time, there are areas nicer than others, but that goes for a lot of areas in Lanarkshire. Accommodation in Cumbernauld can be quite expensive. I live in wishaw, which is around 15 miles from Glasgow and 34 from Edinburgh. You can get to Glasgow on the train in 35 mins and to Edinburgh in 50 if you get an express train.
There are a lot of areas that are less than quiet and friendly so do your homework.0 -
A viable solution for 30mins from Edinburgh airport might be just over the Forth in Fife, or around the M9 corridor, but that would scupper you for getting to Glasgow airport in 30mins.
Does your employer think that the 30mins timescale is a realistic possibility? If so, have they justified it to you?0 -
According to the great google, the two airports are about an hour apart in good traffic. So to get 30 mins away from each you would need to live right by the busiest [STRIKE]motorway[/STRIKE] car park in the country, right in the middle. Harthill service station might be your best bet.
If you really want to live in England, Newcastle might be the best option. At least it has direct trains.A viable solution for 30mins from Edinburgh airport might be just over the Forth in Fife, or around the M9 corridor, but that would scupper you for getting to Glasgow airport in 30mins.
That's what I was thinking. Falkirk/Cumbernauld or Dumfermline areaYes, but the OP has to get to the airports. There's no stations near Edinburgh Airport, for a start.
But we'll have trams! (Interchange at Gogar from the fife circle might be an option).0
