special gift for our daughter's 7th birthday

Our daughter will be 7 on Christmas Eve this year. I have covered Christmas gifts both individually and some classic games as joint gifts to share with her younger brother to encourage family time. I am really struggling for a special gift just for her birthday this year.

We don't spend a fortune, last year we brought her a fabulous Roald Dahl treasury that she adored. She isn't a child that asks for a lot of material things. She loves animals (especially cats and tigers etc). We have a tablet for family use and her Nanny is getting her an mp3 player to listen to stories as she loves books etc.

Help and ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How about an 'adopt an animal' pack? You can 'adopt' penguins, tigers etc ...
London Zoo do animal adoption so you could maybe take her to see her adopted animal sometime? http://www.zsl.org/shop/animal-adoptions/category.html
(if you're not near London, Edinburgh & Chester do this too, possibly others)

As a kid I was always extremely happy with book tokens :D

Was just about to suggest something similar to what OneYorkshireLass suggested.

The Born Free Foundation do adopt an animal, I think it's about £30 a year.

I remember as a child always wanting something like this, a wild animal to call my own!

Our daughter was 8 when we adopted an elephant that was housed at our nearest zoo.
The adoption pack included a picture of the elephant with personal info about her elephant, a stuffed toy with the elephants name embroidered on her foot and a ticket to get dd into the zoo free of charge.
The whole thing was under £30 and definitely worth the money.

She still has the picture up on her wall :-)

If your daughter likes things like this you certainly can't go wrong.

Our dd says it's still one of her best presents ever (she's now 11).

yes, my daughter got a WWF adopt-a-tiger present when she was 9 - she still loves getting the newsletters about "her" tigers, and she's nearly 13 now.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I don't know if this appeals, but how about getting her a cat of her very own?

My 7 yr old girl is desperate to get her own pet, and we're considering it as she's ready for the care of the animals needs as well as showing it love.

A cat in a zoo is fab, but a cat you can stroke every night and is allowed to curl up with you on your bed is something special when you're young.

  • DD1 was 7 when she received her adopted dolphin. She loved it.

At 8, she asked me to teach her to knit. After a poor attempt following YouTube videos (I've never done it), I packed her off to Grandmas and bought her some needles and wool.

At 9, she wanted a sewing machine. She's coming up for 14 and DH is still the one she calls when having trouble with that (I'm useless!)

At 7, DD1 also loved her musical jewellery box with the spinning ballerina. And books, she has always loved books!
  • Have a look at the Animal Ark series of books, my DD 6.5 has them and we are having a great time reading them together. Combines a love of books and animals.
Proud to be dealing with my debts

  • Thank you all so much. I am now off to investigate the animal adoption packs what a fab idea! We have 3 mogs of our own who traipse around the house after her waiting for her to sit down so they can plonk themselves on her lap, otherwise that would have been a good plan too lol.

I think she would love the adoption idea too as she often points to the ads on the tv. Why didn't I think of that?!
  • Was going to suggest the adoption idea too, seems like everyone had the same idea! Great minds think alike lol! There is one adoption pack where you get a cuddly toy tiger as part of the welcome pack, it could be the WWF one?
