  • I do apologise for coming across a bit... odd in the last post which was deleted.

I used to unfortunately work for HG and found the passion and level of product crap, hence why I went to Metropolis and love it! Genuinely well trained staff a right laugh to work at and working as a team in terms of decision and new product line.

I do hope HG can make you happy in some way, just not confident about how they will do it... terrible stores, terrible staff, they owe suppliers over £45,000... and just not a great bike shop,

    Even J&S are slightly better...

Funny that, I always used to find HG one of the best places to go and get my kit, oh, and that's experience of 4 different stores in all parts of the country, Helpful and friendly
  • Well, J&S (who are in financial trouble themselves) have stupdly bought 12 HG stores to be rebranded as J&S in the coming months, bad news for the bike clothing/accessories industry.

    Why so?
J&S have always seemed to do what they do well when I’ve used them, they’re toward the bottom end of the market with their own brand stuff but they do sell some half decent gear and in general know their stuff. I’d say it’s not necessarily a bad thing having more of them around.

Where I live we had HG, Get Geared and J&S all within spitting distance of each other, I’ve bought from all of them and they all did what was expected. HG used to have knowledgeable staff who were actually bikers rather than just sales people but after the first liquidation this seemed to change and the store never had anybody in (not surprising it happened again!). It must be tough for the shops at the moment, I know on occasion I have been in and tried stuff on only to buy it online where it was cheaper and I’d imagine a lot of people do this. Unfortunately in this economic climate getting good service in a shop is second to paying the least possible for something to many people.
