First here run a system where if you are due change, you can get the driver to write a chit which you take to the company shop in town to reclaim.
Needless to say, lots of people don't and an when questions were asked some years back, they did admit to pocketing a quite staggering sum in ungiven change every year,0 -
I was a cabbie for nearly 8 years, and I find it ridiculous that there is no change; I used to take around £150 out on shift on Monday, which was usually (but not always) enough to last until Friday afternoon, when I'd top up again before going onto nights for the weekend.
IMO, if the company are spending £100k on a vehicle, they should at least be able to find £200 in change for their drivers, which again should be more than adequate.

this happened to me 2 years ago. I only had a £10 note and was getting the last bus that would have got me to work in time. I didn't live near any shops to get change. The driver tried to refuse to take me in a very aggressive way. I in formed him that I had money and could he give me change when he had more later on in the trip as I would be late for work if I waited for the next bus. He very angrily wrote out a note for me to pay within a week or something at the office in town. I was going on holiday the next day and asked if I could send someone there for me and he looked at me like he wanted to kill me but at least he let me ride. I also phoned up arriva to complain after that!!!£2013 in 2013 challenge - £2235.75/£20130

In law, retailers (or anyone accepting cash as payment) are not legally obliged to give change. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to tender the correct amount.
Of course, in practice, most do offer change, but the bus Co in this instance isn't wrong to refuse to give change.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Our buses don't have a flat fare - you pay according to how far you are going - which can be up to 50 odd miles. There never seems to be an issue with change and I often pay with £5 or £10 notes when I get the bus.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

No business is obligated to offer you change. Even shops.0

I think it's morally wrong for some bus companies not to give out change. I do most of my shopping on card so I don't carry any change. In my view it would have been acceptable if the buses accepted debit/credit card payments, mobile payments or payment by smart cards. Apart from London in my most of the towns and cities you've to use the old fashion cash.0
