That was the reason I always gave myself for not trying it before. I hate Facebook with a passion and wouldn't use it if it wasn't for the business. One day I was given a voucher by Facebook for some free advertising so gave it a go. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I forget that some people spend half their lives on there! And my target market are likely to be very heavy Facebook users.

Ah right. I figured ads must to a certain point or people wouldn't keep advertising but it's still interesting to see just how well it works, especially compared with other options.

I always have facebook open, although I don't really spend that much time on it overall lol. I check to see if there's any updates and who's online, rarely glance at the ads.

I'd like to know why I'm getting the ads I am though. Facebook appears to think I want a loan, a kindle and to play bingo, but there's nothing on facebook that would suggest I want any of them things...which isn't surprising because I don't want any of them things lol.

I suppose if the ads were more targeted at me I might notice them more. If I click on one it's most likely an accident though.

When you create a Facebook ad campaign you select various criteria that narrows down your target audience. It can be as general as men or women for example, or right down to specific keywords. I would imagine a lot of people set up campaigns and just think by hitting everyone and everything will generate more sales but invariably it doesn't. As I said in a previous post, I narrowed mine down to just a few thousand people in the UK that I thought would be interested (it tells you roughly how many you are targeting with your set criteria).

There are also a few unscrupulous marketing companies out there that talk many unsuspecting businesses into Facebook ad campaigns. They charge a lot but then set up poor campaigns that don't result in much. Those businesses are probably put off Facebook ads for life but there is always a string of new starters waiting to be scammed!

Yeah, true. Looks like I'm getting all the general ads.

Indeed. Sadly many businesses don't realise how much facebook can help and how simple it is really to set it up. They think it's easier to get someone else to do and half of them pay over the odds for marketing they could do themselves and the other half use companies that set up poor compaigns.

Dave, are you really that slow?! Alibaba is no comparison to eBay. I said it above, Alibaba is a trade website for buying in bulk

    Aliexpress isn't.

    Neither is Taobao.

If Alibaba launch a European version of their auction website - the one that caused ebay to give up in China, ebay could be in real trouble here.

To quote Aliexpress "Currently, only suppliers from Mainland China can sell on AliExpress". Which still beggars the question why you keep going on about AliExpress and Alibaba on this thread. Do you work for them?;)

I'm just ignoring your drivel now Dave! You don't add anything positive to any threads you ever post in.

This is all really interesting stuff although a bit above my head. I need to spend time looking into the facebook thing - advertising.

I thought I'd never work out how to 'do' ebay, but it's got easier over the couple of years. It's just working it all out & then actually doing it.

    I've been Money Tipped!
If it's vintage clothes you sell ASOS Marketplace and Etsy may be an option. ASOS is free to list (for private sellers) and they take 5% commission when you sell. Can't remember Etsy fees, but ideally you need to be prepared to post internationally as it's mainly US-based. Haven't used either myself, but might be worth looking into.
