Not having an engagement ring

I wore an inherited ring - it was my mother's, but when her and Dad renewed their vows he proposed again and she wears that ring now.

Sadly we split and now I wear the ring on my right hand.

OH and I have just got engaged but there was no romantic proposal here either, we mutually agreed that getting married is something we both want.
I am having a ring however, although it cost OH less than £30 including delivery from the States. It's handmade, not a diamond, and cheap but I LOVE it.

Because I haven't got the ring yet I've not told anyone about us being engaged as I'm worried people won't think it's genuine until I have a ring.

I would love to have a heirloom ring but I am happy with my £50 Clogau ring i got a few months after he proposed

He proposed to me in a tent in the rain rather randomly about 5 years ago within 3 months of being together. I said yes but not anytime soon, lets just be together first. Romantic i know.... lol

5 years went by and people stopped asking us 'whens the date' 'ohhhh you will be next' etc etc etc.... which i hated but this year everybody stopped bugging us which was nice! The 3 months ago we were grabbing a bite to eat at a foodie pub where i stuck a 'post it' from work on the wedding section of the menu that said 'fancy getting married in 2014' and handed it to him... i know the romance is overwhelming lol
Since then everybody has been wanting to look at my ring but it is a bit tatty and looks like a fashion ring, you can tell they think it is cheap but thankfully my friends and family don't say anything My retort would be... i'd rather spend money on our wedding rings!
