£90 Parking charge at Service Area

I have just received notification from my car leasing company that I have been cctv'd entering a service area at 13.00 hours and leaving at 23.00 hours. However, i did not park there but used the rear service gates [which are non existant] as a short cut - it is a rat run. Later that day I reused the same entrance to continue my journey, and was cctv'd again.

It is very concerning that the car lease company has paid the charge without contacting me and expects me to pay them + service charge! Some service!

What is the best action/defence for this situation? The people I visited will confirm my visit to them. Can I be 'actioned' for using the open entrance [marked as no exit] but a Private Road?

I would think your bang to rights on that then. You have contravened a no exit sign so I can't see how you can appeal the fine / penalty charge.

I might be wrong on that though. Our local services has a rear exit. I've seen police sitting there before waiting to catch people using it!

    This isn't a penalty charge, it's a parking charge.

Op post in the private parking sub forum.

  • Is there a hotel on one side of the services but not the other, you could if you recall have popped in to the hotel to see about staying the night but they were too expensive, hence the access situation...;)

But the road upon which the No entry sign is erected is a private road and thus under the tresspass rule [or tort whatever that is]????

    A conumdrum.
