  • I just use the 85% figure (which is the manufacturer % efficiency) to calculate a rough kw (kw/h) cost of the oil when I idly think of heat pumps, pellet boilers and Rointe heaters (not!) as possible replacements.


    As a non-condensing, non-modulating oil boiler though, there is a lot of latitude for 'tuning' and if the flue gas temp, air setting, oil pump pressure, nozzle condition, smoke and CO2/CO/O2 settings are out of whack then I have no doubt that efficiency would be affected greatly. Ergo the service and FGA once a year to keep it - hopefully - somewhere near that figure.
