Dress shrunk in the wash can I insist on a refund?

Many large companies I've worked for have done the same, with a detailed database of all issues with a product. I'd use such data to make decisions regarding remedies - if there were 10,000 of a product in circulation with a very small number of complaints, any claims would be taken very cautiously!

Absolute garbage.
By this argument if a product was faulty and they received hundreds of complaints then they wouldn't refund the original complainers and only start refunding when a certain number of complaints was reached!
Ridiculous.

I'm a retail manager....for over 15 years and I agree that the first customer should be treated the same as the thousandth. Yes if there is a case where a whole range of items is faulty they may recall or just accept the return with no questions but that does NOT mean the first faulty one should be refused at all.
Op did you really hand wash it?
How much was the dress because if it's expensive, they can send it to be tested, when I worked for Harvey Nichols this is what they did and there was a lot of people who didn't follow the instructions.
As for the sales assistant stating lots of people lying, I'd be calling up head office Monday morning telling them how rude she was and how embarrassed I was.
If they've any sense they will refund or as a goodwill gesture, exchange it.

Consuemr has to prove a fault exists.
In the first 6 months the shop has the duty to show it wasn;t there at time of purchase.
Therefore somehow the consumer will have to show a) the prodyc shrank and b) it did so when washed according to instructions.0 -
I would say the fault is that its shrunk, and its inherent if it did so while following the correct instructions. In my opinion in the first 6 months it is up to the retailer to find evidence of incorrect washing if they want to refuse a remedy.0

I'd suggest dresses don't shrink, fabric does, so the company can easily do a test on a swatch of the fabric to check for shrinking when washed as advised. Perhaps suggest they do so?0

Hi I bought a dress from Virgos Lounge a few weeks ago. I bought it for Royal Ascot and I am having a hat made to match the dress. Even though I have not yet worn the dress I noticed a very small mark on the dress, so checked the instructions on the label and hand washed it in cold water as directed. I then left it over my bath to dry naturally. On checking the dress I noticed that the dye had run and it had dried in streaks down the dress ruining it. I have emailed Virgos Lounge, and also messaged them on facebook as their website also suggests. Having noticed a few reviews on this company I am expecting problems with them, so want to check my rights so I am ready for when they reply. I would be happy for them to exchange the dress given that my hat is already being made.
Can anyone help me with this. Sorry I am replying on this post as I cannot work out how to post a new thread! This site is so complicated.0
