Need refund for martial arts

This year I finished martial arts gaining my black belt at castle martial arts in Sheffield. I was told that when I finished, the contract would be cancelled at their end. I had been paying the ridiculous sum of £120 per month, which partly the reason why I left, other being I moved house to Doncaster.

Anyway the money was taken out my account for three months before I noticed and cancelled it at my end. Since this time castle m.a and Debit Finance Collections have both been playing me for a chump. DFC said that it sounded like I should be awarded my refund but needed castle to authorise the transfer. I got back in touch with castle to let them know (in August) that this was the case. Since they have not returned emails or phone calls until today, after another email to say that DFC told castle that they weren't going to refund me.

Any ideas how I can get my money back, £360 is a lot particularly as I'm getting married in April. Thanks.

  • why did you not notice 120 going out of your account

never trust a company to cancel anything, do it your self

did you have to give notice or did you just stop going
  • Checked my account sporadically when money wasn't an issue before I moved out. The contract was until black belt, 3 years and I'd done four. They tried to get me to comit to my second degree but obviously I'd said no.

What does your contract say about cancellation.
    You said
DFC told castle that they weren't going to refund me.
But surely it's the other way round?
Why can you not ring and ask to speak to a manager
  • if the contract had ran out, then they owe you the money, as you should of signed up for a number of DD, its like car finance finishing and then they still taking payments
  • Contract with DFC says 36 monthly instalments is non cancellable.

At the bottom of the email it says if an error is made by DFC then you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund.

So you come to the end of the 36 month agreement? And seem to be able to document your case? In which case i'd contact the bank and tell them 3 DDs have been taken in error, the bank should refund the money under the direct debit guarantee scheme
  • did you pay them 36 payments, any more and they owe you, take them to court for money claim on line
  • I'll ring the bank tomorrow. In August when I went to see them the chief instructor was on my side saying that yes I've over paid and the law is on my side etc. This morning he is now saying that he will not help me with this. Do I also contact citizens advise bureau? What I want to know is, is putting this on here threatening behaviour? I've been told that anything put online could be classed as threatening?

For a company that teaches moral values, I'm disappointed in their behaviour.

No this will not constitute threatening behavior.... even if it did then it wouldn't change the facts.
  • asking for advice is not threating behaviour,

morals have nothing to do with it when it comes to money
