Right I know a few people will say its better to buy the phone outright and go with one of the companies like gif gaff etc
but buying outright is not an option at the moment, I c an't spare £100+ upfront for the forseable future and its crucial I get more minutes than my current contract with ee/t-mobile of 300 mins £15 p/m because My OH is now working away I've just got a bill with £60 of call charges (never realised I had gone over as in last 2 years not once had I done so)
anyway seen tesco are doing the 16gb moto g - 750 mins 5000 texts and 1gb data for £17.50 which I can cap at £22.50
asked about upgrades with EE carphone warehouse but in truth they just talk crap to get you a sale and try and pressure you which puts me off
it seems a good deal for a contract phone or could I get better ? that many to choose from its all a bit baffling
max I will pay is around £20 p/m
Need to do it before crimbo or will end up with another stupid bill or not get to speak to my OH hardly at all 750 mins should be more than enough easily.

Tesco have some good deals as you have found. Tesco runs on the O2 network and this gives good coverage indoors as well as outdoors but you do need to check that O2 coverage will suit you where you live.
I have been with Tesco for some years now as a PAYG customer and although I have tried others I still find that they are best for me. Also their 3G coverage is good as they use 3G at 900Mhz and this carries much further than 3G at 2100Mhz (which they also use)
To find out if this will benefit you look at the O2 coverage checker at http://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker or the one on the Tesco Mobile website.0 -
yeah 02 coverage seems fine round here
Just wondering does it matter if I cancel my contract with EE/t-mobile before or after I sign up with Tesco ?
Guess I'll have 2 contracts for 30 days either way (almost out of mins on my old one so need to crack on)0 -
Can't see any problem in signing up with Tesco right away unless you want to take your number with you rather than adopting a new number. I think they'll send you a sim card already numbered and then you just port your old number from EE to Tesco once you've got your PAC code although some people on this forum do report problems with this process.
Use you PAC within 30 days of receiving it as there is usually a time limit on transferring your number.0 -
If you are short of cash and are unlikely to have a spare £100 for the foreseeable future, why are you considering spending up to £20 per month on a new contract (=£480 for two years)?
If you want more minutes, and you really really want a contract, go sim only. You can get a sim only contract with oodles of minutes for much less than £10 per month (taking account of cashback).
Then use some of the savings at some point in the future to buy a new phone - prices keep coming down and specs keep going up with time.
Your immediate need is more minutes not a shiny new phone.0 -
This sounds like you are prepared to pay 25p/min when you go over your allowance and to have your phone cut off for outgoing calls/text and for data when you reach the cap. Not very wise for a person that doesn't have even £100 saved.BigDebtBoy wrote: »....750 mins 5000 texts and 1gb data for £17.50 which I can cap at £22.50

If you call mainly to your OH, get some sims for both of you that allow free calls to the same network, e.g. Giffgaff.0 -
Thanks for the replies
I do need a new phone as mine is knackered half of the time I can't make calls when I need to as the touch screen has a life of its own.
reason I am considering contract is as far as I can see its not going to work out hardly any different, if I go for a sim deal that's min £10 p/m for the minutes etc I need plus £140 roughly for the phone
probably saving about £60 over 2 years roughly
add to that a contract will help my ruined credit rating (bankrupt in 2007/8, hence the name from when I joined 8 years ago)
what are the best deals/companies for these sim deals, am I missing something ?0
