OS Daily Saturday 14th December OS Daily Saturday 14th December This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still very dark here, but looks a bit blustery, so hopefully everywhere will dry up a bit as yesterday was very wet dreary and damp.

DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early - hence why I'm up at this stupid hour! DS1 didn't want to go to work with his dad this morning, didn't want to get out of his pit, it took alot of persuasion from me! He went to work with his dad yesterday - was a normal time start and not a particularly hard day. Think he's going to get a nasty shock when it's time to get a proper job after college!

Dinner last night was a very lazy breaded chicken pieces, chips, beans and salad. I had jacket potato, tuna mayo and salad. Cup cakes from the tins for those that had room. Tonight I'm not sure what we will be having but won't be anything too demanding.

Was reasonably productive yesterday, went to the bank, got the food shopping done, continued with the washing, drying and ironing, changed beds, did a couple of jobs on the pc. Didn't do any more cooking/baking - so although there's cupcakes in the tins at the moment - they won't last very long, so will do some sort of baking/cooking this morning to re-fill the tin, may make some Twinks biscuits, mince pies and a victoria sponge. Felt better towards the end of yesterday - had felt a bit unsettled and overwhelmed Thursday with so much to do and knowing there's not much time left before Xmas to do it - but just plodded along Thursday and yesterday and actually now can see what I've achieved and know what is left still to be done - I'm nowhere near ready but not that much more - and I'm hoping that by the end of today I will be in a good position with not so much left to do! Was feeling much more settled, calm and chilled by the end of yesterday - hoping I can continue feeling like this - until I finish work on the 23 December for Xmas!

Today I'm planning on getting to the SM early - I need to purchase some wrapping paper/xmas gift bags as haven't bought any for years and have now remembered that last year I pretty much used all the stocks I had! I'm also going to take the holly wreaths and visit the graves of nan and grandad (both sets of my grandparents) and my aunt (she died last year). So have a few things to keep me busy today.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

Keep safe and well x

topsy Congratulations!

Thanks everyone, I'm really OK, I've had it before. While it was going on, I was thinking 'Next this'll happen, then this, then in a few minutes it'll be gone. Hurry up, I'm getting bored now' :D I promise I'll go to the doc if it happens again.

Molly Thank you  All those blood tests I mentioned – blood sugar, cholesterol, and whatever else it was (I can't remember now!) were all in the normal range but all at the low end. I've always been the same, the doc said he's not worried, that's MY normal, everything's working as it should. And I hardly ever get ill. But I can't help worrying a bit, what if these levels dip a bit? I feel like I've got less leeway than if the levels were a bit higher, if you see what I mean. I know what my problem is. I have nothing else to worry about, so have focused on this :D

Shopping was good (and that's massive praise, coming from me, lol). I've got two Soap & Glory boxes. TWO!! So I am very happy :j I bought some holly and mistletoe from the market. There's usually some in my mum and dad's garden but they had the nerve to move so I had to buy it :D Mr tru was very good and followed my route through town without 'needing' to just go here and just go there, lol. Had an hour and 20 mins left on the parking ticket, so did my good deed for the day and gave it to a man who had just pulled up. When we got home mr tru made me a posh coffee :D

I replaced my missing foundation, in fact I bought two :D Noticed it was three for two, so I picked up a mascara too. I've hidden them very very well, miss tru won't find them, lol.

Meant to say the other day, when mr tru was in Bristol last week, he picked up three sacks of coffee bean husks (free) from a coffee shop. We put some in the chicken run and the girls were scared of it, they all hid under a bush, lol. After a few minutes they started creeping out, then started scratching around in it. Happy chicks :D The sacks are nice and thick, they'll be useful for storing next year's veg.

Today I'm wrapping more presents, this may involve more wine :D The chocolate coins will be hung on the tree and more stars will be crocheted. I suppose I should do some washing, how boring :D

I'm feeling so so Christmassy. Here, have another song:rudolf:

Sick here so planning lots of easy OS style activities to keep little one happy. So far we have done some painting. Red and green so quite festive. I am going to cut them up and glue them together to make a paper chain decoration. Later on it we will be making chocolate krispy cakes.

Any other ideas gratefully received. Little one is just two so does need supervision.

Hope everyone else is well and bug free.

• Good morning everyone :)

Cold and damp here and looks like we are going to have heavy rain later. I am scared to look at our smart meter when the tumble drier is on.

Have finished last full week at work, just 4 days to go next week then that stage of my career is over and my life starts again. I already feel like it's nothing to do with me and just need to get away as it's still dragging me down. We had to sign legal settlement agreements this week and even the lawyers could not believe the way the company are behaving and offered to try and intervene on our behalf!

Need to raid the freezer for dinner, saw a single chicken breast and half a bag of prawns in there, so can feel a Laksa or a Thai soup coming on. Some noodles and left over veggies will make it a full meal and I fancy something spicy.

Am going to sort all Christmas gifts out later and see if I need to buy anything else or we are done, I hope it's the latter.

A very warm welcome to our new friends.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

Morning all

Sorry to be MIA, but today is Xmas Day at our house as DS&F are here for the weekend, so a Merry Christmas to all! and to all a Good Morning. We collected from from the station at 21.30 last night. He raided the fridge first, and found a Scotch Egg, then searched and found some nice Choccy biscuits. Mum knows what he likes, but does not normally have. ;):D
We are having a rack of lamb tonight, with date and orange stuffing. For the future DIL I will make her a Lobster pasta dish (she is veggie but will eat fish). This afternoon DNephew, DNeiceIL, and the 2 GN&N's are popping down to catch up with their cousin. I need to raid the freezer for bits I have in ready, then nip and a a mini shop for what is missing (run out of eggs, and will need them for Yorkshires).
They had their main present in October as they were desperate for a vacuum cleaner, so have a bag full of stocking fillers to open. (Most of which may end up being taken down when we go to Spain in January) rather than carry heavy stuff on the train.
Love that song Tru, but will play it later, as everyone else still snoring!!

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
• Good Morning everyone, bit on the damp side this morning but not too cold at least. As far as I know at the moment I have my 'pottering day' today as I have no shopping to buy and I shall be at home on my own with a large pot of coffee and very little to do.I will put a wash on later and maybe push the Hoover around the sitting room ,but thats all for the housework.:):)
Probably have a leisurely shower and wash my hair and then feet up and some knitting and catch-up t.v. for the rest of the day.No cooking or baking to do :):) and no visitors either at the moment .But knowing my tribe that can alter at a moments notice :):)
DGS Bens 18th birthday next Monday and then two other relatives on Wednesday and my youngest DDs on Thursday so next week will be a busy one.I love my quiet Saturdays though as it recharges my batteries.
Hope you all have a great weekend and catch up with all the things you've been putting off

• Morning :)

Yesterday went much better then expected. We were absolutely shattered by the end though. We went to buy our tree, normally we get 3,5-4ft and it sits on the table in the corner. Well this year must have been a good harvest because the bigger trees were in our budget...

Well it's 2 meters high, 1,5 meters wide and doesn't fit in the corner because it blocks the porch door!!! Bigger is better right?

Haha! Anyway it's a perfect tree for a family of 5 we think :)

Today we have friends visiting from 9 until after lunch. Then I'm going to decorate the tree (IF I can find the lights) lucky I bought too many ornaments years ago and never use more then half, so I don't need to worry there. Tonight we have a food delivery.

I've got soup to make for lunch, and fresh rolls. Tonight is jacket potatoes and chilli for dinner :)

Tomorrow we are off early to go to our old church (an hour away) I'll drop a few gifts off and I need to go to the range to buy frames for the last if my Christmas gifts :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend x
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Morning all,

quiet night as I didn't get out to go to the party. DH was unwell and worried. Heigh ho, what can you do?

Today's jobs:
post office with BIL's present and a few bits & bobs DONE
drop stuff at charity shop DONE
collect my (unexciting) Boots order DONE
order the sponge Xmas cake DONE
put up the rest of the decs - well, I've got them out of storage ready!
strip & remake bed
cook/wash up/etc
ENJOY STRICTLY!

Have a good day x

Edit to add: order a last minute Xmas present as DH forgot his poorly colleague who was magnificent at supporting DH through his own illhealth. Get to payment stage to realise DH doesn't have the address handy. Wait with order page open while DH bumbles about. Find DH looking aimlessly at telephone directory expressing surprise that friend is not listed. Sigh heavily, find address using Google, order gift using soon to expire discount code. Click send just as DH comes back into room with a different idea for gift. Grit teeth and make a cup of tea! :D
