Where to buy first Sofa

Hey everyone,
we will be completing soon on our first house purchase (Me and the Mrs) so we need to buy our first sofa (we currently live with our respective parents)
I have a question as to where people recommend to buy. We havn't fully decided on what we want but we are thinking either a smaller sofa and two arm chairs or a larger sofa with one armchair as well as either a footrest or one of those sofa with the footrest built in to one side (a lounger I believe) and we are looking to spend around £1000 and up to £1500 at a push but the lower the better. We are looking for fabric and wanting new rather than second hand.
I have checked out the usual susepcts such as DFS but have yet to hear one positive thing about their sofas and although they are cheap it seems they still cost more than they should as cash buyers are having to cover the cost of those buying on '0% finance' so where would you Money savers recommend looking for a good quality sofa that isnt in multiples of thousands?
Cheers,
Tom

my only recommendation is (if you are looking at long term investment or have pets) BUY A LEATHER SOFA !!
Baby Sick, Contents of baby's Bowles, Pet hair, and likewise any pet bodily fluids, Coffee, Wine, Ink, you name it.......... ARE NOT the sort of things you want to be trying to "clean" from a material covered sofa. Take this based on first hand experience. yes Leather sofa's can seem "colder" BUT I will put up with that any day over trying to clean a stain from a material sofa.
I remember our little one actually poo'ed (weeks old at the time so that nice mustardy stuff) on a photographers white material sofa. she was adamant it would be OK.... well I'll tell you....... It wasn't !! lol !!0 -
I can highly recommend an online company called Nabru. Like you we bought our first property last year and so bought our first brand new sofa to go with it and this was a really affordable way to do it. My cousin also ordered a different style sofa from them recently and is also really pleased with it. Another friend is moving into a new flat (from a houseshare) early Jan, and again, we have plans to sit down to look for a sofa on Nabru tomorrow. I think this highlights well how satisfied we've been with them to date! :rotfl:
Take note though, the cost is reduced because of the self-assembly element. There's a video on their website that's worth watching which shows you the process of assembling a fairly straightforward sofa, and will demonstrate well what you're getting for your money.
We ordered a huge u shaped sofa (well, a corner sofa with a chaise at the other end) equal to about 6 or 7 reasonable sized seats (if you stick someone in a corner) and it came to around £900, half the price of most pre-assembled competitors. Plus, depending on the covers you get, you can get spare covers and/or many of the fabrics are, or were, washable (they'll sell you cans of scotch-guard if you want it too). There are loads of options, and you can even design your own! They'll send out fabric swatches if you request them.

We bought ours from DFS - I know they get a lot of stick at times but for value for money it's been great and worn well - got two leather sofas and lasted 9 years so far (though think new one now due thanks to cats!).0

We also bought from DFS but our experience hasnt been great. While sofas are not worn after a year's use, the seats have started getting quite soft. if you want long term investment, spend on good sofas. i am sure we will end up buying another set in 3/4 years time so would have spend twice for sofast in 4 years when we could have spend more upfront to get sofas from john lewis etc which can last longer. of course it depends on ur budget but something to keep in mind!0 -
Next may be worth a look, their furniture is quite nice0

We've used Harveys the last couple of times and had no issues. Interest free credit is always handy handy if they offer it.0

Ikea. Real prices and no hard sell and excellent CS.0

Where are you?
We have just bought or second sofa from Westbridge in Stoke on Trent (leather this time, made the mistake of fabric last time). They manufacture for M&S, John Lewis and Next among others. They also sell to Trade Secret. All their prices are 50% of catalogue prices.
We have ordered an M&S Abbey compact sofa and a next fabric arm chair. 800.00 for the two inc delivery and removal of old (we are 30 miles away) Find an m&s or next sofa you like and give them a call to see what they have got. Alternatively tell them you want a brown leather sofa and they will tell you what they have. Several hundred sofas in the warehouse.0
