The day started off well, cleaning house and mashing lots of potatoes and putting them in the freezer for emergency dinner. So rock and roll.

We are going to friends tonight for dinner and to share the cost I said that I would make a desert and bring christmas crackers:p.

The plan was to make a cake

I bought a bottle of mulled wine ready to make a mulled wine and chocolate cake by Jamie Oliver. To my horror when i opened the magazine about 20 minute ago it is actually a mulled cider and chocolate cake. I don't have any cider. Its the saturday before christmas and i really don't want to go shopping. This is another good reason to have a shopping list.:D

I am not a big cook and have a small list of things that i can cook, this was pushing the boat out for me. I rummage through the cupboard and find a chocolate cake mix and decide i can put a mulled wine icing on with some chocolate curls. Result.

    Only problem is that,
it wants 3 medium eggs and I have large. Vegetable oil and I have sesame or olive. opt for the sesame as its nutty and then put a slug of wine in and a shake of spice.

The tin I have is a heart shape and not very christmas but hey ho the cake is a throw together, better planning next time.

If all else fails, we will drive straight past a supermarket on the way to friends so i can buy an emergency desert if needed. I have some posh custard in the freezer that I am going to take just in case.

Well if nothing else it is rising and i may have a Heston brake through.

Next time I will read the instructions and make a list:A

Cake had an interesting taste and not something I would recommend using sesame oil. But it looked fantastic.

Well it certainly sounded interesting, that's the sort of thing that happens to me - get started the realise I'm out of sugar nip out for that then come back only to find there's no eggs... if you decide to give it another go Ald* are doing a very nice mulled cider quite cheaply.:D

  • Thanks for the tip about the cider skin_spice but I am leaving cake baking for the moment :). I am planning something from the basics in the good housekeeping.

I am going to the pub today for lunch, hubby is taking me out and has booked it himself, this is about the second time in 2 years he has taken the initiative so I am not going to argue. love him.

6 days left till the credit card clicks over to a new month. If we keep on track, we will be able to make a capital payment of £1000. yipee.

Your cake sounds very... interesting LGP :D, what did your friends think of it?

Sounds like you have a lovely day planned, well done to mr LGP for booking lunch out:T I'd love for mr C and I to be able to have a lunch date out!

Good luck with eBay, it's good to get rid of clothes that are too big, i find it helps me with eating a bit healthier if I know I won't have any clothes if I put on weight:D

  • Hi

Crumpets - My friends are true stars and were slightly complementary, Mr LGP let the cat out the bag about the oil saying it had a funny tang. My friend said it looked lovely..... her husband stayed silent..lol. I left it with them and their children ate it today, and I have pictures to prove it.

Lunch date was really good and yummy, roast beef and homemade Christmas pudding ice cream. I am not thinking of the cost at £49. EEK

I am planning to have a picnic at home on the carpet over the Christmas period, one night bottle of wine from the stash, cheese and crackers. Alternatively it will be posh sandwiches, candles and some music. Crumpets maybe an cheap idea for when the children go to bed, if you are unable to get some time away ?

Very pleased to announce that I have wrapped 95% of the children's birthday and Christmas present for next year, this afternoon. I am not sure this is a good thing to admit as still have lots of stuff left.

Found a gift card from Debenhams and when hubby read the back it stated that if its not used in two years they can just wipe the credit. Good job I didn't leave it in the box and give it as a present. I am not going to the shops at the moment for obvious reasons but it may be a bonus for a bad day at work.;)

Back to work tomorrow :( I have weighed out a whole box of cereal into servings and put into plastic bags to take in the morning. Just need to make a sandwich so I avoid the mountain of chocolate in the office.

Happy days, here is to 2 NSD

  • Hello

Its going to be short today as nothing interesting has happened.

Bought dinner from Waitrose reduced section and got an additional 10% off for using the loyalty card. it would have been a NSD but hubby didn't get anything out for dinner.:(

Going to sort out the finances later to see how much we can overpay.

  • Welcome, and well done so far. My cupboards were like yours, but after a stressful year for all the family I am treating them over and above what I would gerrally do. Managed to recycle some presents to. Keep up the hard work. Ns days I find really hard.... But if you look after the pennies ANC all. Xx

  • Thanks moneycurious is nice to know that I am not alone as all the girls at work think I am a bit mad, but always ask me advice on purchases.

Managed to put £800 in to the Op account although I will not update my signature fully until is paid across to the mortgage and they will only allow capital payments of £1000 or more. Need to save the £200 from somewhere. Do you have any tips to help me not spend in the sales ?
