I suppose I don't get it done in the summer because my line of thinking was if I get it done too early it gives the birds more chance to nest build between getting it swept and me actually using it.

Jackdaws nest between April and June. But you can sweep anytime if you fit a chimney guard
  • Ah the joys of nest removal, can be a tough job and one that does not really get any easier with experiance, be very carefull bashing about with the brush or hook you dont want to cause any damage to the flue. I always check after removing a nest with the CCTV just to make sure its all gone, its amazing how much they can move with just their beaks and how quick they do it.
As others had mentioned if its difficult to get a sweep to your area get it done in June or July and get a birdguard fitted, is the lead on your camera long enough to get to the top as there will most likely be nest further up also, you would not want that catching alight !

Yipheeeeeeee all done at last :T

Ended up with 6 black bags full to the top of twigs! They must have been doing 24 hours shifts! Must remember to find you pellet gun before Spring :rotfl:

Fire roaring away now, toasty warm with the wind howling outside, I forgot how nice it is having the fire going, as said we do not bother with it that often.

Yep lead on camera went right out of the top of the chimney, success was very sweet indeed, LOT of effort though I would not have liked to foot the bill for a sweep to have done it.

Anyway my hat is off to all you sweeps

Thanks for all the advice and tips and Merry CHristmas :)

Please don't do that. Just buy a chimney bird guard instead and you will stay nest free.
