Landlord coming into flat when I'm not at home

  • What a completely fictitious load of old drivel this thread is.

I can't wait for the bit when the OP gets home and finds the landlord dressed in her underwear, spanner in hand (ooer missus) doing 'some more repairs'.

Even Eastenders have better plot lines.

What's so far fetched? In my first rented place (>10 years ago) I had exactly the same problem with the landlord. He even tried letting himself in when I was in bed once (studio flat so the main door opened directly into the bedroom), fortunately I had the chain on the door but it was a pretty horrible experience all the same. I was too young and naive to know my rights or where to seek help and only wish I'd had somewhere like this forum to ask for advice.

    I agree.

In the summer time a poster called FTBSOS made a series of increasingly bizarre threads about estate agents, landlords, the Co-op and, as shown below, renting a car:

I believe Aphrodite_x and FTBSOS are the same person.

Sorry, I did not mean to offend you but if you read this thread it's full of inconsistencies.

The OP ought to get out more (if only to give the landlord more chance to snoop around :D).

  • I know someone who rented a 3 bed house and the LL would only let them use 2 of the rooms, as the 3 rd was locked with his "stuff", use to come and use the room

Not offended at all :D What are the inconsistencies? I haven't noticed any but I am full of cold and not exactly on top form today.
  • set up a cctv, near door, so you catch him coming in, and then go police and say stuff missing and have proof of LL coming in house, he wont come in again lol

I think Coopdivi has got it sussed: 18, 24 and 43. There are some great posts in that FTBSOS thread :).

When you go to bed and turn the light out can you see any slow flashing red lights in the room?
  • I could! The only thing I'm concerned about is, if he is doing it, then he obviously doesnt see a problem with it. So I dont want to create a problem, if there isnt one, if you understand what I mean.

He stops for a chat when he picks up the rent so I'll see if he mentions that he has been in doing any repairs or anything (although I havent seen anything obvious)

It could just be that he is highly inexperienced as a landlord and genuinely doesn't get that wandering in and out when he likes (even to fix stuff) isn't on. He may see it as his home still. Really, just ask him if he has been in your home and let him know that he does need to give notice of when he comes in. There's no need to be rude about it, but also no need to be sneaking around setting traps! If he kicks up a fuss, then you know what sort of guy you are dealing with but hopefully he'd just realise his mistake and agree.

    I'd change the locks.
