Ok! Now that I have sorted a laptop for my son, I am now turning my attention to something for my teenage daughter. She is often competing with her father for the remote control, either that or she is too busy studying to watch tv or programmes she wants to see are on too late. So am wondering if any of the techie lot could suggest a piece of kit which could record programmes. I" was thinking of a pvr but she already has freeview on her tv. Also don't want to spend more than £200 and don't want the gadget to be too big:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Does she have her own computer or tablet?
What channel(s) does she watch the most?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
I got a Techwood PVR on a refurb deal, way under £100 from what I recall. You can't dump stuff to DVD from it, but it's ideal for catching up with stuff that clashes or is on at an unreasonable time.
Also check the TV - if it's reasonably modern, it might have a USB connector on it that would allow it to record by adding an external storage device (HDD or USB memory stick).0 -
A PVR is the answer and for less than £200 you can get a good one.
Search on the internet for Humax or similar. You could try Argos too.
I've got a Humax and they are pretty well regarded as reliable. It will record two programs at the same time and has an excellent and easy to use program/recording guide. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Humax Direct, manager's specials are the way to.
For example, http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10068That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Thanks everybody, knew you wouldn't let me down. Just realised a stumbling block so need your help again. Currently in rented accommodation and the majority of the aerials don't work. Do you think the humax would work with a portable aerial?
WTFH = she watches mostly channel 4 and ITV, she also loves music so I did think about some sort of streaming but since her phone bill racked up to £30 last month, I am wondering if we might end up to the same with downloadsSmile though your bank is breaking:)0 -
If her TV works OK atm with an indoor aerial then the Humax will. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

That Humax 9300 is a nice box. It won't pick up HD channels but then an indoor arial probably couldn't cope with them anyway.0

yep they look great but they are out of stock aghhhhh!!Smile though your bank is breaking:)0
