Please help need advice re phone contract

i got a phone contract with EE, got it in store for a Samsung galaxy s4. took the phone home and it worked for first few days then started going wonky not working signal very poor and should have been brilliant. Found out the antenna was faulty on the phone this was reported within the first 14 days of getting the contract. New phone was delivered and this one the proximity sensor on it was not working so after several time wasting phone calls and been passed around loads of different departments i was told that as i had got the contract in store they could not cancel the contract but they would if i took the phone back as my first complaint was made within the 14 day period of getting the contract. So i took it back to the store and was given loads of excuses then told no they could not cancel it as it was now after the 14 days and i would get charged the full amount. So i have canceled the direct debit for the time being and i have told them this as until the matter is resolved i do not want to be charged for a phone i can not use. does any one know what my rights are on this matter as i really want to give them the phone back as their service is dire and i am not impressed at all. please could any one advice me. thank you in advance

The worst thing you can do is cancel the direct debit. Even if you dont pay them they will still be billing you.

Then the debt collectors call, Your credit file gets trashed.

What do the terms and conditions say about cancelling the contract? The phone issue is separate to the network contract.
